It was a massive mistake to write out Lou Beale, she was a formidable character, the matriarch. She could have had many years in Eastenders considering Anna Wing who played her lived until 98 and only passed away in 2013

I wondered that too. I remembered watching it at the time and thinking was she referring to Vicky or maybe the Dagmar fire. There is a scene from an episode a few months earlier where Den calls to the flat to see Michelle and Vicky not realising Lou was there. It was also hinted in that scene that she knew

Anna Wing who played Lou was so upset at being written out she refused to film her final scenes, Pauline just went into her room, came out and said she had died...
