With it being an Airbus I’m not surprised. But I do agree that is way louder than normal

@@Mr_Jonez It's an Airbus in name only. Remember that this was fully designed and built by Bombardier until Boeing tried to kill them. I wonder if the camera is not partially at fault here being stuck on the window? Other A220 video where the camera is handheld are not anywhere as loud.

Nope, it's not hydraulics - the loud spool-up is a characteristic of the early PW1500G (and other model GTF) engines. As the pilots bump-up the throttles, prior to going to T/O power, the "sound of whales mating" is the acoustic resonance of the combustor (where fuel and compressed air are mixed) in the engine. Pratt released the GTF Advantage engine in late 2023, which includes many fuel burn & reliability updates, including changes to the combustor design that eliminates the acoustic resonance issue - it will just take time for airlines like Delta to have the latest revision of engine updates cycle through the older aircraft, such as the one in this video.
