Back in the super oldcdays the mud combo was Velociraptor rears with a Specialized dh front. The Velonfr T had little to no side lugs and would be temperamental on many turns with any type of lean angle. The Specialized had much better reliability inn corners even if they didn’t shed mud that great. Plus the weight was comparable to the Velos if I recall correctly. Heck we’d try xc tires it didn’t matter. There was no dh specific gear as much as there is today. Progress is pretty cool.👍

Has anyone ever tried these hydrophobic ceramic coatings on their bike? I wonder if they would help keep the mud from sticking to the bike? I've also thought about the similar coating they use on clothes where the shit just beads and runs off. You'd think they would help in these situations, because the weight of mud stuck to the bike can make a lot of difference.
