Iv been curious about adding saturation and harmonics without compressors. Does this make the sound change with compression at all? I’m looking for a way to at fatness and saturation without squashing the dynamics of a mix

Hi streaky ! Hope you are doing very well 😃 I have a question ... If I take my API and Neve preamps plugins with a little EQ work , can I simulate the sound of this particular hardware ? Thanks for your time and all your videos ! 😁

You’re a top audio engineer. You’ve got thousands of dollars worth of gear. But why, just WHY haven’t you invested in a proper mic to record your audio for these videos and WHY does it always sound like crap

Itsallawesome yes these are all a little rushed...and I turned the level up on the intro...sorry focus is on content, thanks for watching :)

Yeah, it's an amazing box and the perfect center piece if you are interested into getting into hybrid mixing.

For mastering, it's got solid left - right balance with all the pots. Well done.

Hey Streaky I've had one for about 5 or 6 months-ish now. Great people at Louder Than Liftoff (The Silver Bullet is actually the name of the unit!), I know Brad and Dr. Bill a bit, they are great people to talk to, you should email them and see if they would consider looking into eventually making a mastering version. I hate that the steps aren't numbered (that's my biggest complaint) because it slows me down a bit with making sheets for recall (and I feel you on the buttons maybe being swapped out for bypass switches to cut down on distractions/noise). I find I mix into the API circuit a lot and master with the Neve Circuit...though I'm getting more into cascading both circuits into each other. I wondering how you feel about 500 Series units for mixing and mastering these days (since headroom is typically a smidgen lower with those kinds of units), but there's a lot of interesting stuff for that format where there's some good bang for the buck. I love my Silver Bullet (especially the BAX EQ section) and will say that you get quite a lot of features and functionality for what it costs. Though I'm living in the States and it's probably a bit cheaper here.

Cary Miller I spoke with Brad for a bit and discussed a mastering version with a few extra ideas I had for it.(better knobs, steps etc)Hopefully they are making one as it was a great bit of kit to have in the studio at the time...the low cut and bad sounded really nice. I will be honest as a mastering engineer I’ve never used any 500 series units but they do look like fun, so can’t comment on the sound performance but now you’ve spiked my interest I’ll probably check some out :) I have a bad habit of pronouncing all the kit names wrong!!! Need to work on that. Cheers for the comment.

No worries man, I love your work, and also I love how you're honest and frank on here, so I appreciate you writing back. =) I've been thinking about the 500 series for a couple reasons: 01. The new RND racks have this insane PSU that puts out about twice as much power than you'd need for those kinds of units a military level...and I used to own a bunch of vintage Neves that were re-racked, where I learned the hard way about using the beefiest PSU's you can find to increase fidelity/improve imaging, etc., and 02. The Wes Audio Titan rack (I just Googled it to double check the name), that one has USB control, so you can use their units via plugin GUI's. Wes Audio also make a fantastic looking digitally controlled dual mono SSL E/G style EQ (which also does Mid Side), a Fet Compressor which can stereo link two units and bypass it's ratio (so you're just getting the tone of it like you always say you prefer, no compression), and an SSL G Comp I thought sounded a lot like the older Focusrite Reds when you engage a THD button (I tried that one in person). Anyway...these were all + - 24v units (high headroom for that format), along with the Bettermaker 500 series stuff you could have some decent boxes that you tweak from the sweet spot at a decent price (and some of the Bettermaker units have "remote" versions with no physical controls on the face plate, but they cost even less). I'm building a small spot in Arizona, and after room treatment is done I'm just trying to figure what will work best on a budget (I don't pimp gear or anything, just always looking out for new stuff that can do the job well at a fair price point). Hope this helps or at least inspires a bit!

Need some advice, i have a 10k budget and want to put 3 into acoustics and the rest into a mastering chain, most probably just an eq to start with? But my current setup consists of a pair of adam a77xs and a uad apollo 16, maybe these might need upgrading first before i consider the mastering chain? A main consideration is my room size and what speakers will suit it best (L 4.2m, W 2.9m, H 2.4m). Thoughts anyone, would be appreciated.
@Streaky_com6 жыл бұрын
Clliipz room size is ok, if I had 7k to spread I would go second hand and haggle the prices, maselec Eq £4K, prism Lyra £1.5k, Sub for £500, Avalon 747 £2k...software for limiting and de-essing...then build out from there...upgrade speakers, different style compressor, Manley eq etc etc...get the room sounding good with excellent conversion and good speakers and the rest is just more toys!!!

really cant see myself being able to haggle those prices anytime soon, so i think im going to invest into the maselec to start with. Im so confused about da/ad, will the prism converters make that much of a difference in comparison to the UAD? Its really hard to understand something when you have no practical experience. Anyways, you have been a massive inspiration just watching your videos

how would you compare this to the Tegeler Creme as only outboard 2 bus device for ITB mixes? I know the one is EQ and Compressor and this one more of a saturation unit w. more or less comparable pultec inspired eq. But I reckon both would work in this scenario. thanks, always love the videos
@Streaky_com6 жыл бұрын
cheers, yeah different beast but yes having both as something on the bus to finish off the mix would work well...the Creme is more traditional to this....this can have wild flavours...the creme is posher.

Hi, I am looking for monitors for under 2000USD I produce hip hop and House music,. Right now I am thinking about getting neumann kh120 or used focal solo. Neumanns are great, but lacks some low ends. Any monitor recommendations?
@Streaky_com6 жыл бұрын
Bass is your main concern and bass seems to be where the money is !! defo second hand to get more for your money, Focal twins with a sub will give you detail and bass...depends on room size too...no point is having shit loads of bass in a box, small room I would not worry about the subs and go for low mid detail speakers, leave the bass detailing to a mastering engineer with full range speakers. The Solos are great with a sub, look are EVE, Hedd, Adam you'll need to match something to your room size.
@sugiiyuma90666 жыл бұрын
Streaky Thank you for your response! my room is about 3*10m. Pretty small room. I did not like Adams. Hedds and eves were good. But Neumann’s where better when it comes to detail. I thought focals sound great, but heard just about 10mins, which is not enough. Maybe I should go for focals? What do you think about Neumann’s?

Thanks for the video, but I'm afraid this isn't very helpful without audio actually being processed through the unit. Please consider demo'ing the unit next time you do a review. A video review without audio is just an odd idea nowadays.
