A short film full of torpedo boat action. Follow T56 and her sisters on a journey through the Stockholm archipelago. These boats makes people clapping hands and some angry because the noise and smoke. Built in the 40s and the 50s and restored back to original makes them unique in the world to actually be fully functional even in 2022.
The motor torpedo-boat T56 was built in 1957 in a dockyard in Stockholm. T56 is part of the T42 series that comprises T42 through T56. The main supplier was the Kockums Company in Malmoe, although four ships in the series were built at the Stockholm’s Oerlogsvarv (the naval dockyard in Stockholm).
T56 was in the service of the Royal Swedish Navy until 1973 and was discarded in 1984 and then sold to a private person.
Since December 2003 T56 is owned by the Stiftelsen Motortorpedbaaten T56 (a Trust organisation) and has returned to previous home port 25 kilometres south of Stockholm at the former marine base Gaaloe. The aim of the trust is to keep the ship in its original shape and to distribute knowledge about the historical role of the motor torpedo-boat.
The motor torpedo-boat T56 has the following main characteristics:
· Hull: V-formed bottom
· Over-all length: 23 meters
· Over-all width: 5.9 meters
· Draft: 1.5 meters
· Displacement: 43 tons
· Motors: 3 CRM 18D/SS (+1650hp/each)
· Speed: 50 knots
· Crew: 16 persons
· Weapons:
2 torpedoes, 53 centimetres
1 canon, Bofors 40 millimetres, model m/36
2 machine guns, model m/36
57 millimetres flare and chaff rockets
· Radar: PS 631

The loudest turbos I have dealt with as an engineer were on a 6800 hp Mississippi river tow boat. ear plugs won't help even at idle. The props (wheels) were 9 ft diameter. Engines (2) twin V-16 EMD 645F locomotive engines 645 cubic inch per cylinder. My ears still ring nine years later.

As it is now looted by fisherman from Yemen to South Korea, that are braking maritime law as they are doing unlicenced fishing off the coast of Somalia! Or they can extort western companies that find it convinient to dump chemical waste in somali waters! Or they can extort western oil companies as we all know they are destroying nature with little concequence, which has taken a heavy toll on both animal and human life in several places around the world! Or just extort multinational corporation, cutting away our trees, poisoning our food, outsourcing work so they can pay workers in poor societies peanuts for their labour, later selling their goods in rich countries amounting huge profits... ...See where am going!? I can find plenty of reasons for extorting...burning.. looting!

It's not that they are loud, all turbos are loud. There is just no exhaust restrictions on sea going military vessels, and the sound reflects off the bow spray and water surface so it seems louder

CRM Motori Marini was funded in 1950 by Germano Mariani, who right from the beginning decided to produce propelling systems for military crafts and luxury yachts. Today, CRM offers diesel engines ranging from 1,350 to 2,100 hp, with 12 or 18 cylinders in V or W arrangement considered to be the lightest of the category.

crazy for sure. The tractive effort exerted by the Big Boy is the real deal breaker. But these boats are not quite the 7000 HP range. thats about where the tractive effort of the big boy is. Yes "I been working on the railroad for the past 45 years. was also in the navy for 4. these boats are so very beautiful and heart warning to hear and see.

I think these Swedish boats were equiped by Italian Isotta Franchini W18 diesel engines. Extreme powerfull 18 cylinder engines with 3x 6 cylinder inline banks in W configuration and commonrail high pressure injection. And multiple turbo's with watercooled intercoolers and supercharger. Outstanding engenering, even nowadays

Yeeaahhh, but you have to sell your house to afford the fuel. Gas guzzling as hell. Just starting one of these engines on its own takes 20 l (4.4 gallons). But on this boat they use 2 Ford V8s as starter motors (2 x 85 hp).
