He's a walking dad joke, but he also writes the most beautiful, poignant songs that bleed love, grief and nostalgia. He's the most relatable genius.

This is such a classic by Loudon Wainwright, seemingly light-hearted but really with the emotional depth of the ocean when you consider it as a kind of existential metaphor for a man trying to survive against great challenges and also having fun as a tie to childhood that has been lost. What a couple of excellent talents joining him--so surprising and enjoyable.

This one might seem like just a silly ditty, but it gets to me every time. It's about the end of summer, the end of childhood, and the end of innocence - which I guess is a tender subject for me, because I continue to refuse...

Looks a lot like the Beall Hall, Eugene, OR. Never-the-less, a great setting for a great artist. Loudon is always best taken in at the smaller venues where the intimacy of the performance can really be experienced. Very, very nice.

Loudon was a fantastic lyricist, but, musically, he was slightly more than a YMCA camp song leader. I can only imagine how impatient a sophisticated instrumentalist like Richard was getting (you can see it in his face).

@@alanhowell3646 No shade on Loudon. Simplistic songs can be arranged beautifully. Nic Jones transformed this song into something sublime. Even a masterfully done song, like "Bee's Wing" from Richard, is, at its core, nothing overly complex.
