Lough style for wild brown & rainbow trout on the Drennec lake, Brittany, France
Guiding season 2017
Pro guide : Philippe Dolivet
At the end of each guiding season, I will now produce a short video retrospect of the best fly fishing moments, on my home stillwater, the Drennec lake, whose fly fishing season goes from early March to the end of October. The lake is fly only from boat, with a long stretch of shores dedicated to the fly rod users. After the end of the trout season in rivers (mi-September), the lake remains accessible on a strict policy of fly fishing only and catch and release for brown trout.
This first film is highlighting a sample of great shared moments on-board, both with beginning and experienced clients.
There has been many more but it is obviously complicated to film it all as conditions are not always suitable (weather, time of the day GoPro doesn’t produce anything good enough under low light conditions and clients profiles).
Gifted with gin clear waters, abundant cold water aquatic plants and wide tree-lined shorelines, Drennec lake is a hotspot for delicate top water fly fishing strategies (dry fly, emerger, wet fly and nymph). It is indeed the scene of multiple aquatic insects hatches throughout the season (pond olives, caenis, caddis, buzzers) and collects a huge exogenous nutritional intake (beetles, stink bugs, ants, daddies and more).
My guiding operations involve 2 traditional Irish Sheelin boats (the second one is for rental), giving almost exclusive access to the best fishing areas of the lake, sanctuary for bigger wild browns and overwintered rainbows. On the program: subtle lake strategies and conviviality.
