My mom was like this. She used to use food as a way to manipulate me over my abusive, alcoholic dad. "If I make you feel good, then it will make up for what happens later." Enabling parents give you hope because it is addictive to them. They want to be your savior and want you to think that you need them because you can't abandon them if you need them. Their worst fear is to be abandoned.

Parents that overfeed their kids and are accepting of them being fat can also be considered abusive.

Was he gay? I think he was. Any opinions?

He was, but more discrete about it, mostly due to his upbringing. It shouldn't be relevant, regardless.

Louie is blaming his dad for "fat-shaming", but I'd bet that in reality, his dad was just trying to encourage him to lose the weight and get healthy. Louie just misconstrued his dad's intentions.

Most likely no...He sounds like he was just being abusive.

according to louie's autobiography his dad would drunkenly stagger into his bedroom at 3:00 am and scream at him to lose weight and call him a "lard ass". I'd say Louie construed it rather well.
