Bing Crosby was a great appreciator of Louis Armstrong. I read that it was on Bing's insistence that Satchmo was cast in High Society. And had Bing insisted so too would have Sinatra.

Danny Kaye makes me so happy! His talent, voice and comedy skills were the best. I was pregnant when he passed and loved his real name of David Daniel so wanted to call my baby after him but wouldn't look great for a girl so waited for two more years and finally got my David Daniel!! He's 34 now.

I've always been a fan of Danny Kaye, no question. I know also that he was a connossieur of both classical-music as well as jazz. In addition, I know Danny was a huge-fan & admirer of Mr. Armstrong. All that is great & commendable. My only reservation in a joint-number like this is---did Mr. Kaye really need to imitate Satchmo there? Sure, it was totally-respectful & amusing but he's standing right-next to the great-master himself. Kaye should've let Satchmo be Satchmo, as there's only one. No need to compete with an imitation, or try to out-perform the man. Still, the pair's most-entertaining together, regardless.

@@jackbuckley7816 Louis Armstrong and Danny Kaye performed this song in a film, "The Five Pennies ". The film was about Jazz musician, Red Nichols; and his band "Red Nichols & His Five Pennies. Their heyday was in the 1920s . Band members included the likes of Glenn Miller, Gene Krupa, Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, etc. Red played the corner (also for the film). The changes in music, his daughter becoming ill with Polio and WWII brought an end .... for awhile. After the War, Red was drawn back to music and formed another "& His Five Pennies" which continued to perform until Red suffered a sudden heart attack in the middle of the night in 1965, when they were performing at The Mint Hotel in Las Vegas. Also during those years, they toured Europe many times.

I'm sure you can still find people that are just as good as him today if you looked. Times changed and so with that mainstream music. I wouldn't call today's musicians jokes either. Just because you personally don't like them or their music doesn't mean you can't enjoy any. Just find someone you like listening to.

Not that uncommon in that time. Racism is the present tool of politics. Yes, there was segregation. But the facts oif history are that a lot of people on both sides wanted to stay spearate. Hollywood and the media won;t let people know this nowadays. This is why films like Song of The South are said to be racist. What a joke.

To do your job and be well paid for it is a good thing. To do it as best you can is a great thing. To do it and enjoy it is a blessing. But when it's complete, is when you do all that and others enjoy it too. Here is a prime example of that.

Watching and listening to Louis Armstrong will never get old for me. He sure does smile a lot. He was a happy performer, which is amazing considering the whole black and white thing in those days. Sucks that racism is in our history and is still around today. Anyways back to my point. Louis was a great musician and singer and will live on through his music.

You belie yourself. If you had the gumption to listen to music today you'd realize there's plenty of great stuff coming out constantly. Simply put, "I'm right you're wrong old is better byebye!" is a terrible argument, and only ensures that your musical tastes and appreciation stagnates.

I've told my family to play "What a wonderful world" by Louis Armstrong on my funeral. Always loved that song. And so many laughs Danny Kaye giving me.
