Especially considering the lack of talent he has around him on the offensive line. Despite the mistakes and not getting a W…the most important thing this season is his progression and his health. This team WILL improve, especially with high picks in next years draft…and saving money for next years offseason. We just have to continue to be patient and encouraging to the young guys.*

A lot of quarterbacks especially rookies that are playing from that far behind would have thrown in the towel....but he kept coming and coming never gave up. Absolutely essential quality in a winning quarterback. I confess to being a Jones fan especially after that first season and I think Belichick messed with his head but I'm glad it played out this way because Mac didn't have that resiliency that Maye has.... yeah I know 1 game but I'm psyched

Maye is basically a senior in College, he just transferred to the Patriots for his senior year of development. Caleb Williams is 11 months older then Drake and Jayden Daniels is 23 months older then Drake. I love Mayes ability to pick up first downs with his feet, Defenses will have a nightmare trying to contain him in the future. Maye made some bad mistakes but he also made some throws that show how much arm talent he has. If Drake stayed in college teams would be tanking to take him number 1. I'm very happy the Patriots stayed at 3 and took him. The Pats have cap space to lure free agents and will have a top 5 pick in every round and also have the Judon pick. Future is bright

I am very excited about what the future holds for Maye and for thr tram moving forward. The only turnover i feel comfortable removing from the stat sheet is the one from the screen. It got batted into the air, and it was a great defensive play to catch it. Maye is a stud, i'm glad we drafted him, and im glad the clowns saying "we should punt QB into the future and get a tackle or WR now" will be eating their words. Maye was viewed as a no.1 pick type of talent for 2 years. Him and Caleb were gonna go 1 & 2. He's just that good and hes on OUR team. I'm so sick of hearing people like Riddick say the patriots don't have weapons. Let's call it for what it really is, we haven't had a qb that could get the ball to these receivers to shine since TB12. Just because they weren't able to sign a shiny nickel in the off season, they don't have anything. Bourne is good, Henry is good, pop is good, Polk is good, Boutte is elevating to be a good receiver and the running back( Stevenson and Gibson) as well. So, stop with the bs. Drake is the guy that will open up this offense and prove that. They just need to fix and create a solid group up front. It has been insane with the amount of injuries this team has dealt with since day one that is keeping this team the opportunity to be consistent.
@omusialo3 ай бұрын
I agree - they have more offense than they think, but still no dominant WR #1, everyone else is or will be very solid. Their problem is all O-line. Fix it and you may have a top 10-15 offense even without a #1 WR. Defense too, losing Barmore is a game changer in so many ways. Losing Andrews is a huge, especially for a rookie QB.
@ironPatriots483 ай бұрын
@@omusialo very well said 🤝
@BaronVonMunch3 ай бұрын
@@omusialo I would also say the line is the biggest issue. The Pats won a lot of games with Brady without having the ultimate #1 receiver. And when they had Moss and set records, they didn't win a SB. It's a team effort, the WR position is not the determining factor in winning a title. Hill leaves KC for Miami and KC wins titles and Miami flounders. WRs are the most overpaid players in the league. Did SF really need to pay Aiyuk that money? I just don't see it.

For the people worried about Maye losing his "confidence". I feel that has everything to do with what expectation has been set. Jones was a victim, I think, of his rookie year performance. After a good year, that was the stick he was measured by. But an eroding roster, coaching changes, and the installation of new offenses in consecutive years turned him into what we saw and he suffered for it. If you send Maye out there and tell him "We're not very good right now, so just go out there, do your best, and rip it when you can - we'll worry about the results later", the mistakes will turn into lessons, instead of points of criticism. The rest of this season should be about him learning how the pro game works, his windows, pocket presence, when to keep the play alive, and when to tuck and run - things like that. If he throws 10 more picks than touchdowns. or takes 30 sacks, so be it, as long as it moves him forward.
@omusialo3 ай бұрын
Jones was not a victim. He was a bad decision-maker, immature, and a poor leader. 80% of his interceptions in 2023 were off his back foot. He was overrated and McDaniel's offense in 2021 hid his flaws.
@BaronVonMunch3 ай бұрын
Jones is mentally weak. That's his problem. He had that in college. He is mentally weak, that's why he falls apart. Nothing at all to do with the Patriots. He also has no physical talent so he has no hope at all. Maye hasn't shown any mental weakness so far and that is a great sign. If he ends up getting beat up over the next few weeks, he'll have an argument that he was proven right. I think his take was the OL was bad enough that they should wait until it improves.
@atgn703 ай бұрын
Might need to put the brakes on toughness. Give him 20 straight games of no time and getting hit like Bill did to Mac and then we can start getting really excited. If you do the same thing to Maye you'll kill him too.
@atgn703 ай бұрын
Comment is about making sure the clock in mayes head doesn't get compromised like many other nfl qbs had happen. Maye clearly can run and throw.
@philperry37882 ай бұрын
Small sample, no doubt. But encouraging. Same as it was with Mac at times (Dallas in 2021). Every QB has a breaking point.

We can hope all we can, but this team is not going anywhere unless DEI hire coach Mayo goes. Not much enough said about that. It's really sad. I feel sorry for Drake.

Imagine what Maye might have looked had he taken all the first team reps since training camp began and started week one? Learn by doing. bringing him along slowly was not a usury the Patriots had. If he was that far away from starting then why pick him with the third pick, especially when the Giants would have set you up with picks that could have filled multiple holes this team has? Predictably the Patriots handled the situation poorly
@philperry37882 ай бұрын
Maybe! You could also argue that if they gave him more than they did in the summer, it would've been information overload and what they were trying to teach might not have taken the way they'd hoped.

Why would I be excited about Maye? Bedard told me he had 17 minus plays.
@philperry37882 ай бұрын
It wasn't perfect, for sure. But easy to envision the good plays -- especially given the context -- eventually contributing to wins.
@mattgauvin78423 ай бұрын
Well Greg Bedard wasn’t impressed and felt Maye didn’t do anything to help the team win and had a bunch of negative plays and has shown no development since the summer. He legit basically said Maye was garbage. How is it some so called “experts” think he looked good yet others think he looked bad.

Don’t put too much stock into what Greg “ozempic” Bedard says. He thought Gronk was a terrible pick

Drake needs a slot Receiver... the entirety of the dynasty years, a Slot Receiver was a key component to smart QB play. Troy Brown to Wes Welker to Julian Edleman to ???????..... there in lies the problem. get one or put Pop in there.
@strangesightsinthesky3 ай бұрын
they HAD one in rookie David Wallis but they cut him for Jalen Reagor=idiots!

Pop is among the league leaders in slot usage. They have their guy. Need to keep him healthy.

Include me with Zo and Riddick who wanted Drake to start from day 1. It was really easy since you cut Zappe and traded Mac away. Brissett isn’t that guy nor will he ever be.
@philperry37882 ай бұрын
You might've been right. As they might've been. But players/coaches on the team have seen growth while on the sidelines that has benefited him.
@shawngreene12252 ай бұрын
@@philperry3788 💯 but the biggest reason why was and is that we had no other option. That’s why I said the plan was flawed from the beginning. You don’t sign Jacoby Brissett to start for franchise to be a bridge Qb. I would’ve kept Bailey Zappe. 💩 I would’ve kept Mac Jones over Brissett
