I think Tom Brady has this same effect on todays players. Every player in the league knows what a badass Brady is. He intimidates the hell out of defensive coordinators, as well as the players on the defense. Even at 45, they know that he can still make them look bad and win the game.

Dan is one of the best Hosts ever. He knows when to let his guests go long on an answer (9:15). That was the best part of the interview IMO.

The injury factor, which every player faces every play, has too many times derailed potentially great teams. This year it was The Rams.

One of the very interesting narratives regarding Matthew Stafford is the notion he had no running game in Detroit or in Los Angeles. That he had to somehow perform herculean tasks throwing the ball to win the games he won and was always over-matched against more talented rosters on the teams he faced. All this, even though he played with some of the best talent on offense & defense in the league in both cities with players like Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate, Marvin Jones III, Nate Burleson, Eric Ebron, Jahvid Best, Reggie Bush, Danny Amendola, Taylor Decker, Frank Ragnow, Ndamukong Suh, Earl Averill, Darius Slay, Quandre Diggs, Nick Fairley etc etc for the Lions and an all star cast with the Rams last season and this season. That narrative is gloss and sheen to mask the reality of a guy who played selfishly for most of his career. A guy who got to hand pick his own offensive coordinator twice in his career. Stafford's overall career record sits at 89-101-1. Stafford's a good player, not as good as Russell Wilson was in Seattle. Neither are HOF players. Stafford has thrown 29 pick sixes in his career, tied for 2nd all-time with Dan Marino behind only Brett Favre, and both of those guys threw a ton more passes in a less QB friendly setting. The Rams QB script got flipped into NFL purgatory because Matthew Stafford is Matthew Stafford. He gets hurt, and he got old. They're back to the same old Rams who could not win for 13 straight seasons.

You can’t put a guy in the Hall of Fame with 1 pro bowl over a guy who made 9. Idc how horrifyingly bad Russ has been this year, 9 PB’s and a SB championship is enough to get in the Hall, especially over a guy with 1.
@coldwinter5428

Russ is a 5 time pro-bowler and a 4 time alternate. He's not a legitimate 9 time probowler. Russ is fortunate to be drafted in a stable organization like the one he landed in. switch draft places and Stafford is looked at as the HOF'er as well. neither should make it with Russ's current resume though. Neither have had a HOF career.
@Riles3152
@Riles3152 Жыл бұрын
@@coldwinter5428I mean 5 pro bowls even if you don’t choose to legitimize the other 4 still looks exceptional on a HOF resume. The whole “went to a stable organization” argument can be made for a number of guys in the HOF. Certain guys were just blessed enough to end up in a great organization and made the most of it. But I tend to agree with you that if Russ doesn’t belong, then neither does Stafford.

@@Riles3152 I don't think 5 probowls is enough if they don't also accompany multiple all pro teams and a regular season MVP or two. All a legitimate probowl shows is you were a top 6 QB in the league. I don't think being considered a top 6 QB for 5 seasons should be enough to make the HOF.

How many QB’s are in HOF? What % of HOF are QB’s? Before we even consider R Wilson or M Stafford for the HOF, we should know the answers to these questions - otherwise the HOF becomes a one position institution.

So, everything being equal, there would be 16 players at each position in the HOF and right now there are 36 quarterbacks- more then 100% over any other position. Way too many given that this is a team game. Proof? Dan Marino never won SB.
