I think the beat uses an old nokia ringtone to portray her mindset that she isn't dealing with anybody, like not answering the calls. Then she sings "and then i saw". Like somebody brought her out of her shell. " Draw a knife and carve a lil space for you" implies she had given up on opening up. The song resonates with people that think lovde is not meant for them, when actually it's universal and nobody is exempt from it's spell.
