I'd argue it's more about how he said it than the specific words he says. Sort of like guys who don't know how to pick up girls are always asking for the pickup lines, not realizing that if you know what you're doing, you can say anything and have it mean anything. That said, the real skill was to demonstrate this in front of Louis, all while Louis was actively sabotaging it because he didn't want to believe it was this easy.

It was more cringy watching Louis trying to ask her questions while Ross was demonstrating the technique. I'm not a huge Ross fan as he tends to be a little sociopathic (he's more about showing off his power over women than actually loving women), but Louis was there to learn and present for his audience and speaking over the 'trick' ruins that. Luckily it didn't throw Ross off of his game and it worked anyway.

You can take everything you see, read and hear about hypnosis with a pinch of salt since it is, by default, misdirection and there's always a possibility you are the one being misdirected. Despite that, it is entertaining. It is like a magic trick in that most people enjoy it because they want to believe it and as long as it isn't taken to seriously there is nothing wrong with that.

She could have been an actress, but if you watch the full episode, Ross does teach Louis some tricks which work pretty well and Louis is scared that in the wrong hands these techniques could be dangerous. I know hypnosis, and have tested such things many times with friends and they do work. You just have to know if your subject is susceptible to such techniques, and that's why you always perform a quick susceptibility test. Ross took a chance here, and it worked. Or maybe she really was an actress.

The only difference between hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy is that hypnotherapy works through the unconscious mind while CBT works through the conscious. If you can hold someone's attention long enough through the unconscious mind you are 'hypnotising them' by holding their attention and influencing them. You can't hypnotise someone who is sceptical as they are guarding the unconscious mind with the conscious. So some people only use the conscious mind to make decisions. This is the fascinating thing about society, our minds work completely differently depending if we're guarding the unconscious mind or not. Both having an open or closed unconscious mind leads to having problems but different types of problems. Opening the unconscious mind can lead you to been taken advantage of, it can also increase impulsivity making you more of a risk taker and more likely to achieve your goals.

Ross is not a fool or a fake. He just isn't the he-man most guys still believe men are supposed to be in order to pick up women. And "interacting" is too vague... what Ross is doing IS hypnosis... it does lead to trance, people just dont believe its that simple. But once you understand that all through the day we are going in and out of trance, it becomes easier to accept. It also helps to know that youre really putting yourself in a trance to reach the point where you can trance others.

This is a simple proposition of interacting with people on a genuine level by isolating what it is the other person wants. Ross is working in the realm of erotica, but the technique is equally applicable for most anything in life. Find what the other person wants, give it to them and accept the rewards. BTW I consider this nothing more than interaction, not a form of hypnosis. Further, changing an individual's perception by invoking their own imagination is the technique.
