Hello Everyone! Yep.. I got a Keepall.. and I already have to sell it!
Although personal wear and tear of a bag I am aware is in the fault of the owner I am still in shock that after only 4 full days of using my Keepall it already has a FULL ON HOLE through the canvas.
I work in a business setting and was much more destructive with my last Keepall so I am in shock this happened! Hope everyone enjoys the video.
I was turned off by Louis Vuitton Customer Service.. The Downfall Quality of their canvas.. and so many other things about the brand. But if they keep on having capsule collections like the Supreme Collection then I will be tempted to re-support the Brand LOL

I’ve heard other people say that the canvas has changed over time. That vintage items are better quality than their newer products.

I totally agree with you on the thickness of the canvas. I inherited a monogram keepall from my mother that is at least 20 years old now. The canvas is heavy and gorgeous. The vachetta has patina'd beautifully too. I bought a speedy recently and two weeks after having it the handles had begun to separate. I brought it in right away and an SA told me it probably was being overloaded. If you call a wallet and my car keys overloading it then dont buy Louis Vuitton. They eventually swapped it out but only after stating my case with the SA for 10 minutes. I will only buy vintage LV from now on.

Alex, just ran across your KZbin . Thank you for speaking out and saying for canvas owners to feel free to say something . Similar experience I had with a canvas artsy , in Dallas LV said similar thing my bag was 2 weeks old. We then traveled abroad and I was determined to make sure someone knew . The LV store in Asia actually did make a point to fix it , when they couldn’t they acknowledged it was poorly folded on the edges and replaced my bag . I figure if a cheaper bag can take beatings over and over ,LV for 2 weeks that was babied should hold up the price alone ! So thank you!!!!!

Alex, as you know I am a huge proponent of LV canvas. I have a huge collection of monogram canvas spanning since the 1990's and have inherited several pieces going back 40 plus years. I have traveled with these items constantly and have never had an issue. Yes, I do check some of my luggage. Now I do use the covers for the Pegase 45 and 55 but, that's what they are for. When I travel I like my items to match so the luggage and toiletries are all monogram. It is very disenheartening that LV customer service let you down. It is very clear the bag is new and shows no other wear. It should have been replaced, no questions asked. I have the Eclipse 45 myself and do feel the canvas is thinner than that of my other monogram pieces. I have the steamer bag ordered and will definitely be paying attention to the thickness of its canvas. So very sorry this happened to you. I agree with another poster here. Perhaps take the item to another LV store or call their CS support line. It couldn't hurt and would cost you nothing but time. Again Alex, so sorry this happened. Just because I am a huge LV canvas fan doesn't mean I think their items are perfect. Nothing is perfect not even Hermes! Good luck with it man.

It is interesting that you find the canvas on your Eclipse 45 to feel thinner than your other monogram pieces. Just out of curiosity, where was your Eclipse made, USA or France? The reason I ask is that I also own this bag and mine feels a bit thicker and more robust than the canvas on my Monogram Macassar Keepall. Both of my bags were made in France.

I had a big issue with the Horizon 55 Black Monogram and the store gave me the run around (even though I have probably spent upwards of 100k over the years). I got tired of the BS and write directly to the CEO of LV USA and the next day got a call letting me know I could return it no problem. Go straight to the top. The store managers have little power and have to play by the rules set by LVMH.

People who deny the decline in Louis Vuitton products are obvious amateurs. I have been a collector and been authenticating for over 10 years and any Louis Vuitton aficionado will tell you the quality is no longer what it used to be.

Their wallets suck balls now. A owned a slender from 2007 which was well made and stood the test of time. 2017 slender wallets look like cheap shit, poor QC trash. All day trash. You need to really be selective about LV products these days. Not all their stuff is shit though. But I tell you, they sell a lot of dogshit. You really need to inspect before buying.

I agree with you a 100%. I have a Sperone backpack . I love it, but the canvas is very thin. The other day I was carrying a purse holder in the front pocket, and I noticed that is was creating a mark on the canvas. I thought it was going to puncture it. Since then, I don't put anything sharp in the pocket.

Hi Alex, Based on my experience, there are varying levels of customer service in each Louis Vuitton store. I mostly only shop at the Costa Mesa Men's store for this particular reason. They would never have told you that. I have had an amazing sales experience with Jorge and the store manager Kai. Professional, genuinely friendly, with a knowledge and passion for the product. Most importantly, they follow up with you as they promise. Give them a try if you haven't already.

Alex so glad I watch this, I almost bought the keepall 55 in the canvas . I have the mick pm bag , the Dayton pm bag and the vasco wallet all in canvas. I was going to finish my collection with this but glad I didn’t get since I place to use it a lot for travel. Will definitely save up for the leather instead

Definitely agree that the canvas isn't what it used to be. I bought a canvas wallet in March which I casually place into my bag with no heavy or sharp objects around and I never put it into the back pocket of my pants. 5 months later there are scratches and the monogram print randomly comes off. I'm completely baffled as to what might have caused all this damage. I also own an LV canvas tote made in 2007, and while there is some wear and tear in the corners since it's been through a lot (I don't baby the bag), the canvas itself appears to be much more resilient. LV has changed a lot, it makes me sad.

Back in the 80’s and 90’s when LV was the epitome of luxury the canvas was bulletproof!!! It crazy that the quality has changed over the years! I used to beat the heck out of my LV canvas bags and never had an issue. I still have them! LV should stand behind their products!!!

OMG! i was planning to buy this because this eclipse monogram looks very nice! I currently have my Josh backpack in Macassar and I use it as my travel bag. I carry it with my 12 inch macbook and tons of things, i put it on the floor under the seat inside the airplane... i even used it under the rain! I am very happy with my purchase so far because it dont even have any scratches at all! I take care of it but i don't baby it. :)

I have read somewhere that they have started to thin out the canvas on most of the items. It sucks because I don't believe the products will last as long as the older bags.

Wow! Really shocked at the damage and also how thin the canvas is too! This really shouldn't happen to any bag at this price point and the poor customer service only serves to compound things. I've never been a fan of the structureless shape of the keepall and have been baffled by the fact that a bag costing so much doesn't have a base shaper but I guess that fits the slouchy nature of the bag. I purchased the Gucci GG Supreme duffle bag and couldn't be happier. The quality of canvas, use of leather and inner pockets puts the LV keepall to shame in my books. I have many LV pieces but the keepall in canvas was never for me. Hope you find a suitable quality replacement.

LV Monogram Coated Canvas produced in the 80s and 90 are thicker and better in quality than that of the current coated canvas.

I totally agree. The quality is not what it used to be. I bought a 1100 USD wallet from a special edition, its the Sarah wallet in the colour Tropical in Epi leather. The edge paint is terrible quality rubs off so easily and the wallet wasn't straight, the shape was kind of asymmetric. I got THAT one in return for the Sarah wallet in the colour hot pink in monogram vernis, which also had an issue on the zipper pull. I'm very hesitant to going back to buying LV. And id never chose canvas, really trying to stay away from it.

I was debating between this bag and the Gucci GG Supreme carry-on duffle. I was leaning towards the LV because it is such a classic, beautiful design with a great reputation, and the fact that it's 130 euro cheaper than the Gucci bag didn't hurt. However, seeing both in person it was obvious that the Gucci bag was of higher quality construction....but what really set them apart was horrible customer service at the Louis Vuitton store. They made up my mind for me and I went with the Gucci bag; your review confirms that it was the right choice.

Hi there, loved your LV review and I agree, the coated canvas is way thinner, weaker than it was before. I have several LV items from years ago and the new coated canvas items are poor quality. Any future items I buy from LV will definately be the Taiga or Epi leather ones only.

Wow how disappointing!! What's actually disturbing was the response from LV that it was normal wear and tear!! I have a 12 year old keepall 60 which I've had from new and have travelled extensively with it often checking it in as hold luggage (oh the horror! Lol) and there's not so much as a scratch on it. My oldest LV piece is a 20 year old speedy 40 again which I've owned from new and has been everything from a book bag transporting piles of books whilst I was at university to a gym/travel bag with no damage and is still in excellent condition. It looks like the quality of old is not there anymore. Such a shame, I was actually considering getting the exact same piece to complement my recently bought horizon in the same canvas but will put a hold on that purchase!

yes, the canvas on all my newer bags (2016 onward) are much much thinner than older bags I have, the older bags' canvas feel like twice thicker! I'm going to keep my older bags after seeing your video. The quality on older bags is so much better. You should see some of newer bags I saw them in the store, you would seriously think they were fakes! The alignment etc, gosh, they must hired lots of not well trained workers to make more bags to sell for bigger profit.

Because Louis Vuitton took out the second lining of their bags. This happened when Moet Chandon took them over years ago. Before that I used to carry 1000 page books in LV speedys and the lasted forever. Their Canvas is thinner and thinner every time I go to the store.

OMG. This is the first time I’ve seen a punctured LV canvas bag. More so barely 4 days old. It’s obviously a qc issue, and overlooked when you bought it. I have been using LV since 1991. I always have problem with their linings in some of their bags. For example the bucket and artsy. But puncture? Now this is the first, thanks for sharing this video. I’ve been thinking of buying the keepall macassar but... If they no longer care about their QC, ugh.. I feel like changing my mind.

The macassar print is not thin at all, you can especially tell when you put it side by side with the eclipse in the boutique. Go for it!

I have had no problems but I have always stayed with the normal monogram. In terms of Goyard don't go there, the quality is honestly worse, the stitching frays very easily.

I bought this same bag in February this year and even though I've only used it once I love this bag and the Eclipse monogram as it is so masculine in comparison to the common traditional monogram I still wouldn't put my MacBook Pro in it as it is of significant weight and wouldn't want it to stretch or cause misshapenness to my bag. I don’t think the corner of the Macbook Air would have punctured the coated canvas that easily. You must have unknowingly put something inside the bag an object with sharp corners like a package that uses a thermoformed plastic.

There is no way that that bag should have punctured so easily. This is not normal wear and tear. Louis Vuitton quality is not what it once was. Its really unfortunate. I'm sorry to hear that this happened to your bag. I was thinking about purchasing this item, but I am having second thought because of the decreased quality and hit or miss customer service.

MCM are far more durable than LV nowadays, however they’ve recently been sold to a Korean company so I doubt they’ll be keeping the level of quality as they try to claw their money back.

i think it's the SA that you spoke with - the few times i have had any issues with any luxury brand, it was sorted by my SA's to whom i am a loyal customer - perhaps try a different LV store? i have quite a few Longchamp nylon totes that Longchamp fixed the corners at no cost to me years + years after purchasing - i much prefer LV's epi leather as it's practically indestructible, in the future have a look at that leather - for SLG's and specifically wallets there is nothing better than a LV epi wallet, Chanel nor Hermes wallets do not come close in terms of durability...

Unfortunately as time goes on, they try to save money and the quality suffers. My vintage pieces are a thicker more durable canvas then my newer stuff. Sucks. Quality has gone down, so buying vintage is more important than ever.
