You did an excellent job on these leaves!!! What I really love about your videos, is that you are a GREAT teacher! With great photography on this video, showing us the sheen of water, and that you told us to wait a couple minutes BEFORE adding paint, that really helped me, I was NOT waiting long enough before adding pigment, causing my paint to spread way more than I wanted. So many artists w/videos on KZbin, do NOT tell us all the details, but YOU DO: THANK YOU!!

I LOVE your bloopers at the end of your videos. As a fellow YT creator, I totally understand your struggles! You are so brave to appear on camera. It would take me forever to get a video out if I appeared on camera. The combination of having to keep a pleasant look while keeping my thoughts straight AND getting the words to come out correctly is just too much!! I salute you! Oh yes, your art is brilliant, as always!

I’ve only watched a few of your tutorials but I must say, you are the best at teaching because you explain why you do something! You wet the paper and explain how it’s supposed to look before painting THEN you explain it’s because you want soft edges and not too wet because you don’t want the paint to spread out too much. I’ve learned more in two videos than I did in the year prior! Thank you!

Oh LOUISE!!!!🤪😂😂😂😂 As a writer, I am one to talk about editing ( I so understand the gaffs) and how frustrating it can be to get it right...how many "takes" it requires to get what you want. 🤪 Let me assure you though.....being real. Sharing your beautiful....(and funny!) outtakes.... This is GOLD. I LOVE your artwork and keep coming back for the learning experience alone....but oh my heavens....I'd return time again just for your precious outtakes. They're some of the best. Your sweet humor is spot on!!!! Never, ever change.❤️ You're just perfect! God bless my friend!

Amazing! The water color leave study depicts that there is so much beauty in fallen ripe leaves. Such a result can not be achieved without thoughtful, painstaking and patient hard work. LDM, you do so much so easily! And that too while teaching! Hats off Ma'am.

The advice @4:39 regarding using reference photos as a guide, then doing your own thing, is invaluable. That is what creates a person's unique line, color, contrast and texture styles, similar to handwriting. Thank you for brilliant advice!

When your video began by you walking in that long grass, it brought back the memory of an earlier video of yours where you had a snake visitor under your porch and the birds were letting you know. I found it interesting how you made your reference photos for these "dried up old leaves" and thoroughly enjoyed watching you paint them and bring them to life on paper. Naples yellow - an interesting yellow but W&N describes it as an opaque colour and yet it looked quite transparent in your painting. Lovely painting and great instruction.
@LouiseDeMasi3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mary. I haven't seen that python since then. I hope he's still around because they are harmless and they eat mice. I find that if you mix water with opaques and put them on thinly they can be transparent just as transparent paint put on heavily can look opaque.

As a mum to a young kid, I end up painting loads of leaves in exactly this way. It lets me dash over to my painting desk when I have a chance, throw on a wash or an accent, then back to ‘real life’. I’ve learned that it’s all about quality paints, and great shadows. Sometimes my confidence wobbles when it’s shadow time, especially if I like my leaf- I get scared of stuffing it up! At least now I’m good enough to put several gum leaves on one page, I used to do them on individual scraps in case I stuffed one up! Luckily gumleaves have so much natural variety it’s hard not to hit the mark! 😉🤣 Still learned a lot from your great tuition, I can’t wait to take a crack at a new bunch! Love from Daylesford, Vic 🍂

i love the bloopers at the end, they always crack me up. the finger gun move was simply classic ;) this reminds me of my teen years when i would trace leaves and their shadows on my paper for use with colored pencils to study the way shadows worked. makes me want to restart the series again because i would always include a flat 2d element from the previous picture. must have been over 30 because i had two drawing books nearly full.
