As a 62 year old jazz dinosaur, life was becoming increasingly miserable and hopeless with the death of so many of my musical heroes, until I came across these two creatures a few years ago. I FUCKING LOVE THEM!!! To find an identity and musical "voice" is hard enough, but to be so utterly unique and engaged in another sphere, to sound different, to BE different - all whilst creating the dense and complex music that these two little wonders do is so completely heartening for the future of intelligent music (i dread to use the word "Jazz"). My only issue with them is that they don't output more. Listening to Louis and the adorable Genevieve ALWAYS puts me in a positive and happy state of mind. LONG MAY THEY CONTINUE TO BRIGHTEN OUR LIVES!!!

I love the way Genevieve sings. She does it with simplicity, free of any artificial complexities or mannerisms. And she nails that simplicity with a whole lot of musical sensitivity. It's very subtle, and I love that. Genevieve doesn't need or try to sound different, than her simple, natural, beautiful self. Way to go!

She's one of my favorite vocalist. I think if it was the early 80's she would be a huge pop hit but since the industry has become so refined all the creative bands are underground. I mean look at stuff like the B-52's and Eurythmics; they would be probably playing someone's basement if they came along today.

I am with you. I actually like this performance more than the recording. The lyrics take on a different character without the voice mod, it changes the meaning of the song. IMO, it's much funnier. On the album, with the voice mods, the character singing is in position of power. The character singing on the album sounds like he's the one doing the watching. He knows things you cannot comprehend. The live version, though, sounds more like it's coming from your weird-ass neighbor from the upstairs apartment . It puts more emphasis on the singer's weird obsession with being watched, rather than the absurdities of the US military industrial complex. It's like, "dude, I know, you think the CIA is watching you jack it. Please stop talking about this." Edited for clarity.

I was soooo fortunate to be able to see Louis and Genevieve last December before all of this Covid bullshit happened. It was one of the best concerts I've ever been to in my life. Louis had a full "live sesh" band on stage with him (yes, including Jacob Mann and Sam Wilkes) and they were un-freaking-believable! I know that some of Vulfpeck was there (Jack Stratton, Cory Wong, and also Cody Fry) because they were hanging out and dancing right in front me. Louis and Gen, if you see this message, I just want to say Thank You so much! I'm sure I'm not the only one here who needed this to help brighten an otherwise dimly-lit Covid quarantined day.

@JM Coulon Music is no longer audio-only. To make it today, you have to be visually interesting, and Knower is one of this practice's more economical executors. That is, they do a lot with a little. Performing wild poppy jams with a projector & 45XL tshirts, a prove it kit and a couple of synths, plus the criminally underrated vocal talents of Artadi remains the winningest combo I've witnessed to date. We can better understand the process of the masters today, based on shit they do in their living room, performing in their pajamas. The revolution has been on KZbin all along...

@Muzikman1272 жыл бұрын
@@dkny02138 I believe Genevieve writes a lot of the Knower songs, and Louis produces/arranges (as opposed to his solo work, which he writes). That's what I've read anyway, and I will say a lot of the KNOWER melody lines have a more genevievey flavour than Louis Cole's solo output. That said with two people who work so closely together I imagine it's difficult to say this person or that person wrote this or that thing since you bounce off each other so much

Heard “Hanging On” for the first time during this set and I’m not sure why that song didn’t soar on the EDM charts. Like, who is not doing their fucking job and searching out amazing music? I’m pissed because we are missing out on music that is out of this world because it’s not “mainstream.” So tired of all the stuff Big Musica loves to shove down our throats all day. I don’t listen to the radio because I’m tired of it. Who else can relate?

Some people say, “No one makes good music anymore”. Those people have boring musical taste and are lazy. I used to think it was one of those generational things, but it’s really not. Some people are just boring and really lazy. I’m not even sure how to listen to the radio anymore. I’m vaguely aware there are radio apps. When I lived in L.A., I had a radio player and I could play KCRW. They had a show called Morning Becomes Esoteric. No, wait. Morning becomes Eccentric. Hold up. It was Morning Becomes Eclectic. I’m pretty sure it was that one. And they also had the Joe Frank Show.

As much as I like the live jams with full band, this is the real Knower to me. ✌️ This is just totally unique. Using synths instead of strings and horns, and all the other electronic techniques, gives the arrangements a bigger, more modern and innovative sound.
