Louisiana Beer Reviews: Coors Light vs. Keystone Light

A taste challenge! Both are kosher certified, light lager beers, from Coors Brewing Company.
Coors Light- introduced in 1978. "The Silver Bullet".

I did a side by side of these blind and preferred the Coors Light, though I had people in the comments say this is the same beer, and others say its not, haha. I will say, I can get 15 packs of Keystone Light here in San Diego for $7.99. You cannot beat that value. KL is one of those perfect on a super hot day beers. CL, too.

Doing two 18 packs of coors banquet for $20 by the grocery by me at moment. 36 banquets for $20 spot isn't bad either.

Did a taste test last night and took a few notes: Genesee Light - Bland, pharmacy aftertaste Keystone Light - light but with body, crisp, super-easy drinker, perfect carbonation Milwaukee's Best Light - crisp, pleasant bitterness, flat body PBR - bacon nose, meat aftertaste Montucky Cold Snack - bubbly, watery, cardboard aftertaste I have an ignorant palate but chose Keystone as my #1 Montucky #2 if willing to pay the price, if not then MilwaukeeBest

I worked at the Coor plant in Virginia for several years in Quality Control. Keystone is literally Coors Light, but with less quality control. Hence the reason Keystone can taste slightly different with each run.

I'd go Keystone based on price. If I ever go light brew I go Natural Light. Good head to head. 🍻

Never had these side by side but my perception or thought process on this is that Coors Light is crisper and Keystone seems to have a little more body/ bit more of a full mouthfeel. Of course you see Coors Light in establishments everywhere but there was a venerable pub (closed in 2019 after 33 year run) in my NJ hometown where I grew up that actually had Keystone Light on draft.

Ron, you talk about Keystone Ice a lot but I never got the chance to try it back when it was around. Can you describe it and maybe mention the closest thing available today to it?

Well, nothing was like it, as it was unique. I'd say it was like a banana cream. Something like that, Rob.

I was a PBR man for at least ten years or more. This past summer 2023 I decided to play the field and tried about a half dozen other brews in the same class. My objective was to see if there was something better out there or should I stick to my PBR. POW! I discovered MGD and love it! I have shaken off PBR. Would you please consider doing a PBR vs. MGD shootout? Thanks!

You try Tecate? That’s an overlooked cheaper beer in my opinion. Not as cheap as Keystone and Busch… but it’s better IMO.

I remember they sold Coors Light in 2018 or 2019 for start of Super Bowl(i believe it was the start or something like that, it was something with football) event in stores in germany and the whole time i thought "buy one, just to remember" but i didn't i had this "beer" before and in stores are better options. Are there price wise alternatives like Helles or Keller(cellar?!) beer made in the US and sold in the stores? This is what I would advise people to buy, when you looking for a refreshing less tasting beer for a fair price!

No, we really do not get those, here. We get something similar to German helles doppelbocks, which are very common, and these high-gravity lagers use corn (maize) filler, so they would NOT be allowed in Germany. But, they are largely similar to the helles doppelbocks. Mickey's Fine Malt Liquor (more of a helles bock, at 5.6%) is a good example.
