If I were to get a 330e I would do the exact same color and interior combination. While full electric is the future public charging is still too uncommon for regular use and too expensive so the 330e is a good choice. I just wish the battery is bigger so you can do at least 50~100km in full electric drive.

Alvin Rodney hey Alvin, I have no idea when but I'm guessing this year end or beginning next year. But if new 3er is coming out this would probablyyyy get some kind of discount? So it depends on yourself really, you want the new design or get this with discount and whether you need a car urgently. In my case I'm really wanting to get this. Lol

Advertised mileage is 37km but realife is 29 or 28 only. 20% lower is too much. 10% I can accept but 20% is too much.

My beef is with the advert by BMW which put 37km as 1 of the selling point. I still can get to work & back on 0 drop of petrol but I can't make that additional trip to get a coffee on da way to work. Having that 10% or 20% as advertised solves my morning coffee issue. Off the air conditioning & go natural still only gets me 30 or so vs the initial 3 mths I see 40+.

To me it's still one of the nicest driving experience I've experience from a compact luxury sedan. the handling is superb over it's counterpart. it would be great if you go for one that still has a valid warranty, or if you have the budget you could consider a used 530e as well since it's newer and i just saw one with 30k km at RM190k.

Is it possible to wash the charging socket? And if u charge it on a charging station, is it free or it will charge the amount into the card and you pay the bill?

Better not wash the charging socket directly with a hose instead just wipe it with a damp cloth. That greentech chargenow card is based on subscription, means pay once for a period of time and you get to charge unlimited times within that period. Paid upfront.

Hey Louis, was doing a bit of research on the 330e and came across your channel - great stuff, very balanced and comprehensive. I noticed you used an extension cable for charging and it actually worked, but the sales guys say it usually doesn’t (some info I picked up on the internet also suggests the same). May I know what is your extension cable’s construct? Because I might then skip installing another wall socket. Hear from you soon, thanks and keep the good stuff coming :)

Hi Wei Xiang! sales man and manufacturer definitely won't recommend consumers to use extension cables because of safety issues because a lot of extensions are not for heavy duty use, and they also want you to install the i wallbox. I made my extension cable myself, bought and made it using proper thicker- than- usual and pure copper 3-core cables.

@@LouisSiah Thanks for the reply :) totally understand they would want to try and up-sell end users with the wall-box option. Reason I checked in is because my family too have home-made extension cables which are meant for heavier duty usage (and TBH, looks a bit like yours haha but am unsure whether the construct is the same) - in this case, I think what I'll do is to TRY using the extension cables first, and if it doesn't work, then will explore other options like (a) getting a socket installed or (b) building a new extension cable using heavy duty materials. Appreciate you taking time to get back, have subscribed to your channel ;) looking forward to new content!

Hi Louis, I'm new to this type of cars and want to seek ur advice... 1. I drive long distances quite often. I average about 10k kms in about 2.5 months. Would this car be suitable? 2. With my driving kms as stated above, how much would my fuel consumption be? 3. Is it true this car only can use ron97 petrol? Tq for ur time and patience

Hi Suresh, over time i have gained more info about this car and here are my comments. This car is meant for in-city short drives and not for long distances, the reason for that is because if you want to get good fuel consumption, you have to charge the car all the time and every full charge will only give you 20+km electric range. this matters because after the hybrid battery goes down to 3%charge, the engine will constantly kick in to charge the battery which means you're using petrol after that,and with the added weight of the hybrid system in the car, on long drives it would also increase your fuel consumption close to that of a normal petrol car. So it's not suitable for long distance drives, so to recap you have to charge the car all the time to get the best fuel consumption, which is a hassle(same for all plugin hybrids). Another thing is i dont recommend getting this car if you only have one car because i have heard lots of owners who complained about electronic problem, some minor some serious, depends on your luck maybe no issues at all but even bmw service advisors told me to stay away from the plugin hybrid especially 330e. The hybrid battery has 5 modules, each module cost about rm9k to replace, if it's faulty within warranty it's fine but if it's out of warranty then I don't think it justifies the fuel cost saved. As for using ron97, i personally recommend ron97 for turbocharged cars as it's cleaner for the engine, as i could feel a difference when i pump bhp 97 vs 95 in my turbocharged cars, 95 will make the car vibrate more which definitely isnt normal. Truth to be told currently there isn't many choices of fuel efficient luxury cars in malaysia except for bmw f30 318i and the latest C200, both with 1.5l turbo engine,if not there's the new bmw g20 320i,it's lighter than f30 3 series so I'm assuming driving it sedately would be able to achieve good fuel consumption too. And if you dont mind a non luxury car, the hyundai ioniq hybrid can easily get at least 800 km per tank, many owners have shown their 1000km per tank on the owner's group too. Feel free to ask me anything.

Would u highly recommend this car? I saw one recently, very tempting to replace my 11 years old Mazda 6 2.5. My concern is cost to replace all the hybrid batteries after the 5 years.

And that's the exact concern i have, if plan to keep the car for long term then the battery will definitely give way at one point in time. It depends how you think of it, if you can find a good condition one and get it for less than 180k then you saved a lot for battery replacement hehe. Car wise it's a very good car, very nice to drive, rear seat comfort is just average though but not a big deal. Along the way you may face electronic issues but any conti car will also have the same problem.

The main difference is the 2018 comes in m sport trim. I'm actually not sure if the 2017 has auto parking. Btw if you're planning to get this car, I'd suggest getting a 2019 at least, wouldn't recommend getting a hybrid that's too old.

Just a quick question buddy! This car have to be charged every day or have also a option of self charging battery when you drive??? I seen that when the battery is full you can drive only on Emode for 25-30km max,and when battery is empty and you switch to petrol engine only from this moment the battery starts charging or you have only a option to find some public place for this or to charge it at Home??? Thinking very seriously to get one of this but after i seen a review from one Guy from London where he explain that in fact this car is too hard on Petrol and with full tank driving only about 500-600km I'm a bit confuse 🤔🤔🤔 Thank you for your time. Hey there, yes in a way the car does charge itself but it wouldn't charge it till full. For example when the battery is depleted,the engine will kick in to charge the battery but only until a few percent unless you put it in sport mode to keep the engine constantly running. But then this will defeat it's purpose of being a fuel efficient car, so to make it fuel efficient it's recommended to charge the car whenever possible or just live with auto edrive mode where the engine will keep kicking in and turning off in order to charge the car, but it's pretty seemless when the engine kicks in, you wont notice it most of the time.

Hi! The car can be driven without charging, but it wont be as fuel efficient because the engine will kick in to charge the hybrid battery when it reaches 3%, so the engine will continuously kick in to charge the battery more often, means it will use more petrol. So better to charge it daily to get good fuel consumption.

You can run on petrol and never charge, no problem. The plugin hybrid system will charge the car with the petrol engine, even if you constantly drain the plugin hybrid battery without charging, the system will constantly try to maintain at least 3%of charge by charging through the engine. It will also charge through constant braking and downhill drives without flooring the accelerator.

The engine will just kick in itself and charge the car to 6% until you can use electric again for a short distance until it's low on battery charge then the cycle continues.

Amir Hamzah Yes! Biggest difference based on my own opinion, it's more refined than a4 and driving dynamics is better than c class. And bmw got 5yr warranty, 5yr free scheduled maintenance and 2yr tyre warranty :)

330i or 330e which one is better？

Hi! It depends on what do you want, both are as quick, more than enough for daily use just that you probably get a better engine sound from the 330i and on the other hand the 330e is a silent killer. And if you're interested in getting one in new condition I don't think you can get a 330i unless some dealerships still has some lying around. Another consideration is how long are you planning to keep the car, because I always believe that if you plan to change your car in the next 5 years, the 330e or any plugin hybrid for that matter, isn't a bad choice because I'm skeptical that a plugin hybrid can outlast a petrol engine, I still believe that more parts means more things could go wrong. Having said all that, I would go for 330e because I'm a sucker for good fuel consumption(unless I'm buying a sports car then I want better exhaust sound etc) plus it's overall a very well composed car in that segment.

The 330i gives you 252 bhp at all times whereas the 330e gives you 252 bhp when the batteries are fully charged. When there isn’t much juice left in the batteries then it practically transforms into a 320i. It isn’t bad for those who prioritize fuel saving rather than outright horsepower. For me if I were to get a performance car like this, I would want the car to provide me the same engine performance at all times. That’s bang for the buck. It’s all a matter of personal preference. The other thing as what Louis mentioned, the hybrid system is very complex and that could mean higher maintenance costs if there is any malfunction after the warranty period. Not to mention replacement of batteries which isn’t cheap.

@@LouisSiah for example , driver wish to explore the iDrive (new to BMW system) after they got home or maybe listen to music/news for a bit before they step out of the car, but don't wanna waste any petrol or causes any unpleasant smell came out from the exhaust while idling the car, so i wonder if they can charge the car while they are sitting in a car with engine on. Something like using your smartphone while its charging XD or maybe it someone go to public charging facilities, and there are no restaurant or cafe nearby, so they decided to just stay in the car while its charging? :D

I'm actually not the owner of this car, I only got it from BMW Malaysia for this review so it's pretty short term. but I am part of the 'BMW F30 Club Malaysia' on Facebook, I recommend you to join that group for more ownership experience. but so far i can tell you being the first mass plugin hybrid model in bmw, the 330e does have more electrical issues compared to other 'normal' bmw models. and the hybrid battery is actually in modules and there are 5 modules, each module cost about RM9k to change at BMW service centres. from what i heard you only change the modules that are faulty but whether all are going togo faulty at the same time, who know right. my opinion of this car changed drastically ever since i reviewed it, I wouldn't own any plugin hybrid models because I would have to change car before warranty ends, have to be ready to face electrical issues and the hassle of going to service centre, charge the car every night if not the car won't be fuel efficient which in case you didn't know it wouldnt be fuel efficient to run this car on long journeys and even if you charge it you can only run on electric for about 20+ km.

Boleh juga, tapi fuel consumption akan tinggi sikit la sebab engin akan auto kick in untuk charge hybrid battery apabila battery tu turun hingga 3%, dan ia akan charge sampai 6% saja, so bayangkan engine akan asyik auto start waktu driving untuk charge bila battery 3%. *kalau tak silap 3% dan 6% la tapi saya sure engine akan asyik start sendiri untuk charge waktu drive.

And yes you can use extension cable, i did use extension as well at my office in the video but my extension cables are made by myself, i buy better electrical wires and make them so that i can use heavy duty equipment. If your extension cable is good brands i believe it's ok, if there's ever 'brands' for extension cables.

How to use for auto parking this BMW 3 series?

Azfar Azman in simple terms 1) drive past a parking spot slowly and use the indicator to tell the car which side the parking is on 2)once you pass the space you can select whether the parking is a bay parking or parallel parking 3) follow the instructions on the screen, manually select gears and just control the brakes manually, the car will accelerate itself. 4) once done just select parking gear.
