I just bought a LOV3... and I'm returning it. The cleat which is supposed to keep the device from sliding down the rope is totally ineffective on my 9.5mm, and provides so much friction on an 11mm rope that it feels like I'm hauling up a LOT of extra weight. The good news is that THEY'RE CANADIAN, and have been super nice about the return/refund process, no questions asked. 🙏

They are French. But thanks for the feedback!! What 9.5 rope did you try it with? I was quite happy with my Sterling 9.6, Mammut 9.5 and Maxxim KM III 9.5. But my level of tolerance is high and I always use a backup device. (Everyone should IMO)

@@YannCamusBlissClimbing @mapleafropes is the new Lov2 available for sale? I asked Taz directly and they said they had no plans for a new taz2 so I'm a little confused.

@@YannCamusBlissClimbing The picture of the device on the mapleleafropes site there shows the taz lov 2 having the large holes on the lever side of the device, where as the new lov2 you hold at 0:42 does not have these large holes through the device on the lever side. Does the mapleleafrope site have the wrong pictures up? I want the lov2 device with the cam that slips!

So it sounds like the new Lov2 might be the way to go, at the moment. You get the benefits of the Lov3's lessened rope wear, and you don't have to worry about the possibility of the device opening on you (however distant that possibility is).

I have the same new LOV 2. Great. So difficult to figure out what you will get when ordering online. I also have the sticky cleat. I tried it out yesterday and felt super safe with an Edelrid Spoc as a backup on a well used 9.8mm dynamic rope. Instant lockup. No shenanigans. And I kind of tried to make it fail by dynoing and just falling off. Everything felt perfect. I think the fact that I felt safe to jump after about an hour of testing shows that this setup is really confidence inspiring.

Was the old edition of the LOV2 sold in blue? I wonder if that would be a good way to tell if you're getting the newer version or not when ordering online.

You can ask TAZ but I believe the 3 colours red black and blue have been made for a long time. Maybe the purple has had only more recent batches.

I weigh 75kg and am having a lot of trouble descending savely. So far I only tried at home on static 10mm rope and could not once control the speed at which I‘m going down. Even if I hold the brake hand really firm and actually pull down on it, the device almost always „snaps“ into fully open position. Ive seen people manage to control the speed online, but… for me its impossible. Im wondering if this is a malfunction of my particular unit or if the sweetspot for controlled lowering is just too narrow for me. Maybe you can make a lowering tutorial in depth for it?

This is strange!! What rope brand and model is it? Yes I will think of making a video about descending with the device. I am 80kg and never had a problem with both static and dynamic ropes down to 9mm… (not recommended, follow manual recommendations!!)

Hey Yann - I have a tax lov 3 and the tension cleat can lock out. Tad warm about this but don’t actually say it’s a malfunction or propose a remedy. Your thoughts? I might just file it down to prevent the lock out as it seems potentially disastrous

It depends… I know it's hard to find a comprehensive and reliable source of information on this topic. That's why I did my research, bought equipment, experimented and adopted a way to teach rope soloing. I like to refer to my complete online courses. My reasons are the following: -It is dangerous to have partial information about security systems -I need an income to continue my mission to teach and innovate I would love to help you find answers to your questions! I suggest the following solutions: -An in-person course (blissclimbing-com.translate.goog/fr/formations/?_x_tr_sl=fr&_x_tr_tl=en) -An online course (blissclimbing.com/en/online-courses/) -A subscription to my Patreon (I answer on the platform) (www.patreon.com/blissclimbing) I prefer to refer to complete courses. The courses should answer 99% of your questions and show you more things you haven't even thought of AND that are essential to being effective and safe! For any remaining questions, I answer every question asked by my clients and try to post everything on the hidden private Facebook groups reserved for buyers of online courses so that all buyers can benefit. I also very often add content to the courses because there is so much to say and teach on the subject AND I still learn quite often! You can always ask your questions on the “regular” public Facebook rope solo groups, but you won't get all correct answers and probably nothing complete. That's why my suggestion is to take the courses!! Looking forward to seeing you buy a course: you will be happy with your choice!!!

Im considering the lov2 to get into top rope soloing. But the one I got (and can still return unused) does not fully match the description of the NEW version. although I do see 5 grooves in the non-moving part of the clamping mechanism (only on that side, though), I do have 2 big holes at the handle side. Is there a way to find out exactly which version I got?

I've just received my Lov2 this morning and mine is as Yann describes. It sounds like yours is a hybrid - new cam with an old body. The new cam is the same part as used on the Lov3 - it should have a large hole at the cleat end, this is where the button would be mounted if it was a Lov3. On all the Lov models only one of the cams has grooves. I think the only important difference between the Lov2 models is the cam and it sounds like yours has the new cam.

I am guilty of the “old vs new” discussion. There are in fact many versions probably. But yea I don’t know of any dangerous batch of LOV2 or LOV3 yet. So you should be safe. Use a backup! Makes sense?
