Every time I see you Paula w/Michael, you two remind me so much of my mother & step-father. I wish he would've lived longer than he did cuz he adored her like Michael adores you. I see where they would be now had he not passed almost 30yrs ago. It warms my heart yet saddens it at the same time. She still loves him today & she didn't remarry let alone she didn't date again either. Never cease to cherish one another cause things happen suddenly for your here today & gone tomorrow.

When I use to stay with my grandparents when I was little, I would go out every morning to the hen house and grab our eggs for breakfast. I always picked the brown ones. My maw maw would fry them up. We'd also have homemade biscuits, grits and sausage. Those were the best eggs I've ever had. I miss those days. We need a chicken coop. But, right now, it costs too much.

I love this post!!! Your coop is gorgeous! Check out how Laura with Garden Answer prepares her coop to keep her chickens comfortable without the risk of heat lamp. In the winter she puts up plexiglass panels to keep high winds off the chickens, keeping ventilation at the top. Chickens don't mind cold, its the wet with cold that isn't ideal. Add a nice substantial roosting branch in there too, secured well. Mealy worms treats.

I remember the baby chicks in a brooder in the back room of grandparents farmhouse when my mom and I lived there while my Dad was overseas. This was back in the day:no indoor plumbing, no electricity, wood burning stove etc.Guess this was to keep them warm. Yes, we had a chicken coop. Can still remember the scent of the corn when the feed bin was opened. Have smelled it a couple of times since. Enjoy the ladies.Grandma H age 83🥰🐔🐔🐔🐣🐤🐥

Love.mine too, Paula! I have not been without any for 29 years now. I remember visiting my Grandma one time and she was fixing food for them. She took me outside to feed and so as an adult, it brings back great memories. I am always amazed at the eggs I gather, I call them "gold". Have fun with yours and GB pots of " gold" too.😄😄

Ours free range all day and let themselves out and put themselves up in evening . I love watching my birds in yard. We have mini horse and 2 great Pyrenees and westies. We have haven't had any slow down in eggs over this winter. Yesterday got about 100 eggs. Yall are so sweet.

Paula, Beautiful chickens and chicken coop. I was transported back to the summers at my Granny and Grandads house. I lived in Jersey and they would come from North Carolina on my last day of school and I spent summers with them. Granny had chickens and I was in charge of gathering eggs (I still have the basket I used to gather them) I had a little gold ring on my finger snd they would peck at my hands and toes maybe the nail polish was an attraction on my feet? Over the years I can't tell you how many snakes I encountered in that coop! Thank You for this lovely video. My heart feels warm.

Chickens are the best anxiety medication. A trip to the beach you can have in your own yard. Amazing animals. Lil serama are the cutest. I had 2 lil roosters that had the biggest chest but they were so tiny. I've got a rooster thats a silke mixed with a Rhode island hes 9. And amazing the polish are amazing but in ky they do not do as good. I like the eggs but the chickens I adore more. Turkeys are even more amazing we have a 2 year ol TOM and my 17 year raised him from a chick. The tom tries to run FedEx off and has ran UPS back to the truck. God's creatures are amazing. My ol Rooster sleeps on the porch a mess but he deserves the life he's earned.

When I was little my mom raised all kinds of birds, hundreds at a time. We had heavy drop clear plastic sheets with weights at the bottom to cut down on rain and wind. They still got plenty of sunlight. Also had hanging heat lamps when it was cold. It's was nice and warm in the aviaries. I was thinkin now with all the fancy electric retractable awnings, you probably could get somethin rigged up like that.

A chicken's normal temperature is between 105˚ and 107˚. Giving them a heater is bad because they will be less able to acclimate to colder temps. Chickens eating cracked corn before they retire at night gives them something to digest during the night, keeping them warmer.

Paula's Peckers! I laughed when I saw that. When we were kids one Easter back in the late 60's, we woke up to about 6 yellow chicks, my mother surprised us with them. Of course they grew up but we didn't know type of chickens they were, and my father made a chicken coop behind our house, granite, we were living the suburbs. We had a rooster named "Ralph," and a hen named Gertrude. I don't remember the names of the rest of the hens, but Ralph would crow every morning, and you could hear our next door neighbor yell, "Shut up Ralph!" They were also free range and Ralph was protective of his territory. He would drop one wing and chase this one neighbor kid down the block, it was funny to see! Unfortunately a different neighbors dog got into the coop and killed them all, it was so sad. We did have fresh eggs for a while though. It was one of those fun memories growing up. I hope you have fun with yours..
