THANK YOU. I'm really glad, in a way, that I'm not alone in that feeling. Since I was a child, about 30 years ago I staryed believing life was a dream, simulation, illusion of some sort. I have no idea why a 7 year old would think such a thing. And this was 1992, so well before The Matrix. I can't explain it and I'm sure it sounds crazy to most people. But since then I've always had this nagging feeling that none of this is real for reasons I can't explain. Whether it's true or not. But I always took solace in the idea that there's another world I'll end up in when I die. For some reason I always assumed it would be better than this world. Somehow. But watching this was the first time I ever considered that it might be worse if there were another universe kike that. Anyway sorry to drag this post on. Waxing philosophical and all. But I figured if anybody could relaye/understand/appreciate this it would be you. Plus you seem like a level headed person. Pretty down to earth compared to most people.
@fugslayernominee13972 жыл бұрын
@@VoidHalo that was such a nice, honest and elaborate comment, thank you for sharing all that, not a lot of people tend to be honest about their early childhood fantasies and those who do don't get appreciated much and it was nice reading your reply. I too used to have some relatable experiences in my life. I'm little paranoid of sharing all that stuff but still here we go; I used to think there's a different world on the similar plane as us which we couldn't see(only later learn about neutrinos and dark matter which are obviously very different things but yet somewhat similar) some other feelings like being watched by my own future self or like being in a dream and there was also this constant dreading about the death all that when I was very young. It was nice hearing somewhat similar experiences from someone else. If you love to dwell on these things and enjoy going on these scifi philosophical roller coaster I would very much recommend Isaac Arthur's KZbin channel. The channel is mainly focused on science and futurism where the host, Isaac talks about various scifi concepts and changes that technology might bring in the future and there's just soo much food for thought you'll love it try it sometimes.

This was by far the best episode for me... Considering on the first watch after the reveal I just thought the plot was pretty simple, with the monster being evil and all. It's when I watched it again I realized that the monster wasn't evil at all, but a victim just like Thom and the others. And she was actually genuinely caring about those newcomers who end up with her because she had been at their place too... Realizing you will never again see home and your loved ones and you're trapped in that place for the rest of your life. Only when she came there was no one to care for her, that must've been extremely difficult... But she didn't give up and made it her life purpose to help others like her as she can. And we don't see it like that at first, because it's a monster after all, with the webs and everything. We assume the worst.
@phantomtq4 жыл бұрын
first, the warp gate is not human made, its been there since ages and humans found it and been using as you can see it looks rock like. Second, greta and her species is also been using the gate and sent there and trapped and other interstellar species. Some die not in despair not accepting reality, some adapt and survive. Greta is trying to prepare the new souls to the shock, trying to make it less painful when they realize reality. And those who couldnt handle shock they die at least painlessly. His crew died because the sleeppod is broken because the paint became old and blocked the air filter and other reason. His own pod is not left with much resource thats why greta was kinda anxious because she knows he is dying. At the last you can see she is kinda sad
@efxnews47763 жыл бұрын
it's a pretty beautifull story, one that hit hard in your heart once you realize how tragic the whole situation is... This story is also brilliant because much like Thom, most folks who think Greta is a monster need to be in the simulation (watch again and again) until they understand, look at comment section and you will see, theres a lot of folks in denyal, folks who refuse to trust on what Greta, some even refuse to reason, because they can't accept the idea that a creature that looks so horrifying, could actually be spiritualy better than they. It is one of the most interesting stories i cross in a long time.

The Dead Space vibes are becuse two reasons, one Greta looks similar to Nicole (yes she is very alike with how she is described in the og story in apperance, but they AREN'T the same), and 2) the concept art of the alien station look similar to Dead Space. Aside that, it has NOTHING to do with Dead Space, just that the conceptual artists where lame, and just copy pasted the aesthetics that we already see a million times in games and movies, theres nothing genious in what you saw there, in fact, that is what caused folks get confused with the ending of the story: association and fear.. The concept of the story itself is more similar to Mass Effect, Greta station is kinda like the Citadel, in Mass effect, since it's right in the middle of the network of gates Greta is similar to Rachni, and insectoid hive mind species, who Shepard need to deal with it either in an peacefull resolution or in bloodshed (all depending of your choices). Alastair Reynolds universe is more similar to Mass Effect in some ways, is more grounded and less flashy, theres not an abundance of alien races like Mass Effect but theres some... In some ways is similar with Dead Space because theres far more dead civilizations than living ones, and folks don't know exactly what happen it also appear to be conected with the gates but not like in a advanced machine race with stupid reasons for killing organics like the reaper or a already established aliens species that consume others like in Dead Space, just some sort of disaster or war that caused a lot of species die out, and knowing Alastair is something completly umpredictable and VERY simple probably.

I just understood the symbolic meaning of having a statue of the Virgin Mary cradling baby Jesus in its arms floating around, when the red lights are flashing: something that the camera seems to give an extraordinary amount of screentime given how short the episode is. If there was ever a doubt in my mind to whether Greta's intentions were benevolent or malevolent, there is no more. The story all but gives you the answer, so you cannot escape facing the cosmic-level tragedy of it's message by telling yourself she is just a horrifying and deceitful predator, and then use that to look the other way. Amongst the greatest pieces of art I've ever had the chance to experience.

На мою думку це один із найбільш запам'ятовуваних епізодів, і один з найкращих!) Саундтрек - супер, суть та смисл - аналогічно, бомба!)

Anyone else want the view at 2:10 ? So pretty... I dream about that kind of stuff and if i had a chance i would leave this planet, i would in an instant and live among the stars thousands of lightyears from home..

BEYOND the aquilla rift, this episode has everything BEYOND perfect. And I thought they'll never made much movie with animated visual like this that usually seen in AAA game trailer.

The most amazing moment would be when every single one of us open our eyes, the real world is like that, and our spider friends everywhere.

Smoke is clearing out, all the circling lights blind me I've been running out, now it's all just a fight to breathe I gave it all, yeah, I gave everything I will never break the silence When I look inside, I don't have to hide If you're looking, you won't find it Who's the enemy? Don't know what to believe Living in the shadows Living in the shadows Light is breaking through a dark that is underneath I know the truth but for you it's just out of reach You took it all, yeah, you took everything I will never break the silence When I look inside I don't have to hide If you're looking, you won't find me Who's the enemy? Don't know what to believe Living in the shadows Living in the shadows I will never break the silence When I look inside, I don't have to hide If you're looking, you won't find it Who's the enemy? It’s so fascinating, everything about this episode. ‘Greta’ looked through Thom’s memories, found the memory of the real Greta and Thom, learned enough about Thom and Greta, through Thom’s experiences with her to recreate her…and then she decided to spend the rest of his doomed life pretending to do the horizontal mambo with him. Fascinating. She’s like a Psychopomp, Easing the passing of the poor lost souls.

Es obvio que Tom es importante para ella porque se aparea el alienígena 🤣 Que hermoso capitulo deja todo a la imaginación y la interpretación me recordó por un momento a dead space . 😅

Arguably the best LDR episode of the series, it's a chilling, horrifying and absolutely mind-blowing episode. Even though I know the story, I get the same existential crisis every time I watch it that maybe we all live in a twisted simulation.

I feel bad for both characters , thom just wanted to make his delivery and do his job but that fucked up due a routing issue. The alien calling herself greta just wanted to care for thom as she would with any lost soul making his slow demise a comfort and genuinely feeling sad for him as there's no way of getting him home so she creates a dream for him.

i found a new thing after 6 times i watch. the first opening door scene was right from capsule but in the end scene (where is we understand the loop) greta comes from the left side. that means that monster change every dream. THATS UNBELIVABLE.

Basically the spider alien was an empathy vampire, she fed off their emotions and energy as well as could feel their emotions acutely. So while she used them as food after they were caught in her “web” she was also manipulating their minds to make them see/feel whatever brought them comfort
