I love the symbolism behind the lava monster turning into a goddess of the earth because in real life Volcanic soil is very fertile and perfect for growing plants.

Plus it goes to how many fertile islands are volcanic, and can go from a place of life quickly to a place of death if the volcano errupts. Its an amazing bit of symbolism and made me fall in love with this movie so much because even I didn't make that connection till that moment at the end.

As a Pacific Islander, I appreciate how much Disney worked to research some lore from the region, especially Polynesian legends. Maui is known throughout the Pacific as a sort of Hercules/Loki legend. Some of the navigation techniques are based on actual Micronesian wayfinding. And Moana’s connection to the ocean is actually pretty fitting. Her name Moana literally means ocean 🌊

Interestingly enough, historically, there actually *was* about a 2000 years "Long Pause" in voyaging in the Island cultures. Then they resumed sailing and voyaging with a vengeance, spreading throughout the rest of islands in the Pacific.

What I loved most about the twist at the end of Te Ka being Te Fiti was how it reversed the trend Disney had for several films starting with "Frozen:" instead of a nice character being revealed as a secret villain all along, the villain is revealed to be a good person all along.

What I love about Moana is that not only it’s directed by famous Disney writers, John Musker and Ron Clements (who also directed films like The Little Mermaid and Aladdin, for example), but this also feels like a Disney Renaissance era film.

Te Ka being Te Fiti makes sense if you think about it. Rock/earth from volcanic eruptions is incredibly great for plant growth once things cool off, and basically all islands in the pacific (where this is set) were volcanic at some point, to grow large enough to be above the surface and BE islands. NGL I totally still didn't get it until I saw the spiral though

I can say without a doubt that when this film first came out, I had NO inclination to watch it. Refused even when it came to DVD. Then one day I said screw it and fell in LOVE with the film. Moana is one of the truly good ones. And I am all for Disney having the girls themselves save the day. Not a kiss. Not true love. Themselves. I love the animation, the characters, and the songs. And The Rock is pretty freaking hilarious. 🤣🤣

at some point in the story, Maui and Tamatoa were the same character, someone who had a deep past and chose what the ouside world views on them, their songs, You're Welcome and Shiny, as different as they are, are thematically the same it was Tamatoa who made Moana and Maui start bonding. I think Schaffrillas 1 hour long analysis of him explain it better

Just a quick question, have you already watched Frozen, Frozen 2 and Big Hero 6?, If not… is there any chance you’ll watch them n the future? I’m just curious…
@TimotheeReacts
@TimotheeReacts 3 жыл бұрын
will definitely be watching big hero 6 in the near future, heard a lot about em. havent seen the frozen movies, and honestly not too sure they are my demographic, again I could be wrong and just judging them, might give them a shoot at some point, but just from what ive heard seems a bit too princess for me to enjoy and have a nice reaction

@@TimotheeReacts definitely think you would like the frozen movies! They get a bad rep because it has two female princess leads but if you liked Moana I think you’ll like frozen. Those films have a lot of heart and great soundtracks

@@fruity2ty Nobody hates frozen cause the main leads are women. I don't like either of those movies just because I find the music annoying, the first one is overrated, and the second one wasn't needed, ruined kristoff and anna and made no sense

@@TimotheeReacts _Big Hero 6_ is amazing; please make sure to look for the post-credit scene. The _Frozen_ films are fine, but I'm really looking forward to _Big Hero 6._
