Alexej was actually just a boring GOODBOY TM, nothing more. He had a perfect, loving family unlike Grig whom his father constantly abused and disrespected his mother. Everybody loved him. He wasnt affected by the war...and so on. Always showing his best nature....I wouldn't this type of guy..who knows what kind of man he is under that goodboy mask

@@michellelam1162 The subtitles were smaller so I had to put the one's that Amazon had on there. I was kinda annoyed by that, but yes I had to buy it. Each episode was $0.99. So I just bought a couple of episodes at a time.

From what I read online, it seems like this series revels in showcasing constant pain and punishment of its female characters. I understand being accurate to the time but isn’t it time we stopped torturing our female characters nonstop for entertainment? It’s not interesting or shocking anymore it’s just lazy writing. Women don’t have to be beaten down to be strong and there are very few period dramas these days that seem to know that. There’s even an attempted rape scene shown in the trailer. Why do writers want to inflict so much pain on women in their shows? Women don’t have to be raped or abused in order to be strong...we can just be strong and face other tribulations. It’s so obvious that male writers have no understanding of how to write women. Just sad and disappointing.

Because that's exactly how it went back in those times in east europe. Instead of slaves, there were servants who came from poverty. They were only objects to their masters. And yes, noble women were also cruel to those servants who were pretty. Mothers usually hired beautiful virgins as servants so their son(s) wouldn't go to whores and would gain some experience before wedding. Rape happened on daily base within those walls. My great grandmother was also a servant in a rich household, she was also abused. This serie is pretty much accurate

@@gee2541 what did it mean to be a strong woman back then? they just had to endure, that was their strength. they were slaves and couldnt do much. if its accurate its accurate. you wouldnt meet many "strong"women back then with the modern standards you seem to expect. this show is very realistic and in the end thats what makes it special and different than the rest. i on the other hand im tired of most american series always trying to project a strong bossy female no matter the historical period they are put it.i dont need to see strong women in medieval or 19th century periods in order to get inspired. im not facing the same problems they were, so I wouldnt identify with them either way. I need and want to see things exactly as they were. why? because im curious about those eras. if i want to see strong women i can switch to any modern series, and ill see plenty.
