@@NerdyCountryGirl93 So? People can abuse those they love, and this kind of abuse is because she is obsessed with him (though she doesn't actually care about his feelings). There's a reason r*pe is so common from family members and partners. In this song, Odysseus repeatedly refused ("Hell no," "I won't be drawn to live in paradise"), but Calypso overrode his objections each time. This is further confirmed by Athena talking about how she's kept him "out of [his] control" and how he's depressed the next time we see him.
@aphpoznan2 ай бұрын
@@anniefemmas5097It is impossible to coexist. If they abuse, they're not loving. Refering to @linuxsbsc comment, a reason why r_pe most common comes in the family and partnership has nothing to do with their love but with power they have over one. With the selfishness or/and madness of the r_pist. And love with selfishness CANNOT coexist. We can love them but they do not love us if they abuse us. "The power they have" meaning, the trust and also dependence. The trust their victim has in them and the trust of other family members. That's why r_pe comes so often from older family members to younger. Uncle to nephew, stepdad to stepchild, etc. Isn't it the easiest opportunity to take advantage of someone? Having their trust and having them depended? Dependency is also why so many maids were SA'd in the past. Trust is also why some priests take advantage of children. So no, it has nothing to do with them being our loved ones, it comes from the power they have as pretending to be our loved ones. And maybe that, that then it's harder for the victim to realise and overcome their hurt. Calypso doesn't love Odysseus. She never learnt what's love and how to love. She's mad, for what she cannot be blamed as everyone would go mad after that many years of isolation. However, her feelings are still selfish, because she wants him to stay for her happiness, not his or theirs. So that cannot be love, because love cannot be selfish. She saves him from jumping not because she loves him, but because she cannot stand the idea of being alone again. „Life would be so much worse if you had died” she's talking about her life. and there's nothing in him that makes her feelings, it's just the fact that he exists and she isn't alone anymore. It's kinda understandable. But it's still not love.

I love it and also hate it bc like, it’s one thing to emotionally abuse/persistently try and wear someone down with your unwanted affections for years, but it’s an entirely other thing to completely rob someone of their autonomy by putting them under a spell. Circe tried the same thing in There Are Other Ways too
@lorikeetrainwing2 ай бұрын
Circe was using ordinary seduction. She already knew he'd done Moly, which means she couldn't put a spell on him if she tried. In Epic it also comes with summoning a monster, but in the original Moly specifically protects against her magic, and I see no reason that would change.
@tsutomumybeloved74112 ай бұрын
@ Actually, Hermes outright says that the moly’s effect only lasts until the battle is over. When Odysseus tells Circe she lost at the end of Done For, the battle is officially over and the moly presumably fades from his system, making Odysseus vulnerable to her magic once more

I love all your animatics but I specially like the detail in the 2:22 when she looks down while saying that "No one can't come or go", showing that she's also trapped there and hinting that all of her acts come from desesperation; not that I think she's in the right but is a special way to show the grey morality that all the characters had form the begining of the musical.
@tetragaming63322 ай бұрын
She's the only one trapped there if she had just let him leave the first time. "No one can come or go" is her refusing to let him leave, she doesn't fall into the Grey, she's actively in the black by choice. Circe was Grey
@IbroVrgovcevic2 ай бұрын
I'd say it is in the grey area. If it were "No one will come or go", that would actively be black, telling him "No one can come to save you, you're here with me, and only me" in a subtle, malicious meaning. But I'd say, "No one can come or go" is a clear known fact to her, so driven in by thousands of years of loneliness that she just can't and won't let him go, not wanting to endure it again. She's happy, telling him about the island now that he's here. It's actually the possibility of being able to take it in different ways I find fascinating. Because with the lyrics, it can be taken two ways. But none are white.
@tetragaming63322 ай бұрын
@IbroVrgovcevic except we know her words are a lie. She was genuinely shocked Odysseus got there, no mortal has ever been there. Meaning, she would have no idea how her island works. That means "No one can come or go" should probably be read as a Captor to their prisoner. "No one can come to save you, and you can't leave." With her ignorance to what Odysseus is allowed to do, it paints her song as an attempt to break his will, making him resign himself to living with her. She's spelling out his new reality like she's taking a pet on a house tour.

Her controlling the island is a nice touch. Making him bow while while keeping up the kind facade is s nice touch. And at the end, i can't help but notice the length of those vines, where they sprout from the cliff, and the fact that they are just around his ankles. It seems to imply that he jumped in the end thinking even Athena wouldn't help him and that she caught him and dragged him back. She isn't crying because of him. Also, I love how when Calypso pries Odysseus's hands away from his face, just how shocked she looks, and when Odysseus falls to the ground, how she's crying too. Cause remember: Zeus cursed her to fall in love with every person who washes upon her shores, but the catch was that that person was always going to have something they wanted more than her, likely resulting in several heartbreaks on her part, all of which were out of her control. This still doesn't excuse how she treated Odysseus, but in these moments it's almost like she knows what's going to happen next. She knows Odysseus isn't happy here. She knows she's the reason why he's falling apart so badly, something that maybe she wishes could have been different-maybe she hadn't wanted this is in the first place either, though of course she doesn't have a say (cause of Zeus and all). And she knows she's going to eventually lose him, and that he'll eventually leave. I suppose it's simply sad on both parts. I wish for Odysseus to go home, and I wish for Calypso to be free of her curse so she can finally live peacefully.

First animatic I've seen Ody with a mustache in. Good touch. Also glad I'm not the only one who pictured Ody trying to swim away. (Knowing damn well he can't)

This animatic does an amazing job of showing that Odysseus has been a prisoner of Calypso. He's not relaxing on an island except for some episodes of PTSD, he's been physically hauled out of the water, he's been forced to bow, he's been man-handled and dragged around his gilded cage, and the final shot shows him bound to the very cliff where he was having his mental breakdown. And as for that final shot, two possibilities come to mind. First: Calypso, in her own way, thinks she cares for Odysseus, enough that she will keep him from killing himself via cliff-dive into rocky waters. Second: Calypso, no matter how much she thinks she cares for Odysseus, is his jailer, and has physically chained him to the island in a precarious position. And she has made this man so miserable that Odysseus, who journeyed for 20 YEARS, who killed an infant, fought a cyclops, defied the God of the Sea, fought a sorceress, traveled literally to Hades and back, outsmarted sirens, made it past Scylla with minimal damage, and sacrificed his entire crew, just for the hope of seeing his wife? That man? She has driven him to nearly giving up and making all of that effort pointless by committing suicide in a mere 7 years.

Best scenes in my opinion 😁 0:17 Athena must have been like "I raised an idiot".😅 0:21 I love how she jumped into the past❤ 1:26 I Love how Odysseus looked so awkward 😅 2:10 I think you're the only animator that gave calypso plant powers ❤ 2:23 she's totally trapped there too😅😢😅 2:37 wait a second, where exactly did Odysseus want to swim to?😂 3:44 omg he's hyperventilating 😢😢 3:54 calypso is actually crying for him and honestly I'm crying too😢😢😢 Over an awesome, detailed and emotional animatic ❤❤❤❤❤

OMG so MANY details I love it! It just shows how much you care. Like the faces Athena makes when seeing what happened to Ody. I love the take on Calipso! Using more her powers to restrain/manipulate Ody

3:31 is just a thought but I think Calypso used magic here to try read Odysseus' mind and found something about the friendship of Ody and thought it's was a good idea use the "open arms" motto.

Oh. My. God. I don't think I could even put into words how much I love this animation. Athena's design, Odysseus's hair changing, Calypso's hair designs, the colours of the backgrounds and how it slowly gets darker over time, Athena slipping through all the memories, Calypso controlling the vines of the island!? This is just incredible, such a good work and incredible art style👏👏👏

OH MY GOSHH this might be one of my favorite of your animatics so far, not sure because they’re all amazing of course, but the detail.. the vines on his feet, the way he tried to jump in the water, the desperation on both of their faces, Athena’s different reactions as she watches his memories, the clear power difference, the designs, the emotions … I love everything about this it’s amazing! The panic attack at the end was so beautifully done, I nearly teared up. Great work as always!

3:30 anyone realize that Calypso tried to use her magic to calm him down like she did in the ocean early, but this time it didn't work so Calypso panics as she doesn't know what to do but realizes that Ody is in so much pain that even her powers don't work on him

Such a cute Athena going through the memories, one of the best depictions of Calypso (that she's my wife scene and her crazy eyes and scary body language/magic), and that ending!! You spoil us!! 1:53 was such good visual characterization and 2:36 was terrifying in a way I wish more were!!

THIS IS MY FAVORITE LOVE IN PARADISE ANIMATIC BY FAR WOW!!!! How Calypso at the end realizes she's powerless to help Ody and no matter how much she loves him, she'll never be able to relieve him of his trauma. I also like how when he looked at Calypso at the end he saw his loved ones, people who loved him so dearly that died at his hand (or that he made suffer) and when it pans back to him, he looks absolutely distraught. Her eternal love for him reminds him of the others who loved him eternally, who would've gone to the end of the earth for him. and what did he do in return? He let them suffer. He let them die. I think your illustration of that is super powerful and not something I've seen done by anyone else. Keep up the good work!

I KNEW your version of Love in Paradise would be immaculate! I knew that you would give us the most broken, and gut wrenching expression on Ody’s face when he lets out that scream at the end and leave our hearts shattered into bits 😭💔 This was wonderful, beautifully heartbreaking! The way you made Ody age, the beard!? The vacancy in his eyes, the desperation, the grief. Oh the grief! 😭 our poor Odysseus, these single frames at 3:30 and 3:46 absolutely WRECKS me, his scream, the way he falls to his knees *sobbing*

I don't often comment much of anything into videos and whatnot but i really have to say smt cause HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY shi i have seen so many animations by this point about epic but like your art style is just so incredibly gorgeous and the expressions u make literally gave me chills. You inspired me to get back into learning animations and drawing in general. I can't wait to see more stuff you make in the future. Keep up the good work

I really love this Animatic because all that Calypso does is so controlling, she inteends to be lovey and affectionate but all it is all in a very obsessive, conteolling way. With the ending of the vines wrapped around Ody feet is such a cool detail and with Athena going theough Ody's memories, you always do such great animatics

Oh my god Ximena this whole thing was just a MOOD!!!! And if I recall your first animatic with Athena in it! Athena jumping into the memories was cute, plus her reactions. The upward angle as Ody wakes up of Calypso watching him sleep was just perfect. Her expression after getting pushed away by Ody, she is all red flags!!! You did great at showing how menacing she actually is! I always like to see how people handle the Ody's break down at the end and I think Ximena's is currently my favorite, BrittPixelPow's (I hope I have that right) Is a close second. Amazing work as always Ximena!!!!

Man...this is the only version of this song that genuinely made me start to tear up. The ending? With the screaming and pure emotions in Ody? Oh my gosh....you can actually feel and sense the pain he is going through. Amazing job!!!! I shall now go and cry in my little corner....
@ThiefofRPGistheWanderingSoul2 ай бұрын
First off, thank you for taking time out of your busy days for making this Ximena, this was quite the surprise. You always draw Odysseus as so sympathetic and that is really exemplary with this song combined with the animatic. Athena's time dive was very fun especially with your expressions for Athena, especially seeing Circe, Aeloeus and Tiresias. I like your unique design of Calypso and her pulling Odysseus back to shore. She gives me a very "aw shucks vibe" Your scene showing the darkness surrounding Odysseus as he hears his friends' voices, was rather well done. But I'm sorry, Odysseus with that Mustache looks so funny I couldn't help giggling to myself.
@_.n3k0._02 ай бұрын
If there's one thing Ximena knows how to do well, it's expressions of pain and despair... My heart beats faster when I see Ody's expression when he says: "Just let me close my eyes..." 3:28

How Athena looks at the memories is scratching my brain nicely. The little flick to move to the next, the flick to line them vertically off the platform, jumping off the platform and cycling through the memories as she falls…. It’s just so fun! Adds a very nice energy to it.
