By the way, the reason I didn't have a reaction to the "I'm not your man" is because I had already heard that snippet before. I saw the post Jorge made where he acted out the song on an actual beach, so uh yeah. If you were wondering why I wasn't surprised well that's why 😅

Fun fact, calypso doesn't just reference Polites during that scene She also calls him "Ody" like Eurylochus did And did a callback to his mom by saying "I'll stay inside your heart" which is similar to Anticlea's line in the Underword Calypso unknowingly triggered memories of the three people whose deaths haunt him the most. And it's why I love that scene so much, because of how accurately it portrays his ptsd and the fact that even a simple innocent phrase can bring back traumatic memories for someone. It's no wonder he tried to drown out their voices by screaming, or why he was om the ledge to begin with. He didn't want to remember. He didn't want to feel the pain and grief anymore.

@tyrinstale9382 In the Odyssey she basically r*pes him through out the whole seven years. And she also purposely keeps him trapped there when he just wanted to leave. I don't know if Jorge changed that, but considering Ody was so miserable that he wanted to die, I'm guessing it wasn't all that great. Plus, in the Odyssey, apparently he cried every day for those seven years, and Calypso still refused to let him go. I'll only give her sympathy if it's 100% confirmed that she didn't r*pe him in Epic. Or if it's 100% confirmed that she was forced to keep him there. (Also, not to mention she keeps throwing herself onto him and saying "you're mine" when he clearly doesn't want or consent to that.)

@@boonAlina Supposedly in the actual greek mythologies, Calypso's father Atlas did something to be punished, and Calypso herself was punished as well, hence why she's trapped on that island forever. I mean nothing condones what she did but she HAS been there for a very long time, that'd definitely make someone insane. Plus she was cursed to fall in love with anyone that made their way onto it, so she might also be in the wrong as she's not really in control, but regardless she did bad crap. I'm also pretty sure Calypso didn't r*pe him in Epic, so I'll settle for constant attempts at hand-holding lmao.

For people wondering why I don't like Calypso, basically, in the Odyssey, she r*pes him over the seven years that he's there. And Odysseus cried every day for those seven years. Plus, in this song, she implies that they're trapped there because of HER spell. Implying that she is purposely keeping Odysseus there and keeping him miserable. Not to mention she is just not respecting the fact that he has a wife and continuously tells her to get away. I like Epic Circe, but I don't like Odyssey Circe. Depending on what's confirmed, I _may_ like Epic Calypso in the future, but for now, I'm assuming he didn't change much from the Odyssey. And I don't like Odyssey Calypso. Her singing voice is beautiful, her character is very interesting, but as a person? Nope. I personally have a strong fear of being trapped so I know that if I were in Ody's shoes I'd feel super miserable too. It's okay for y'all to like her, I'm not saying it's bad to. Liking a character does not equal condoning their actions. Hell, I like Eurylochus and Ody, does that mean I condone their actions? Hell no. But ANYWAY! Until it is confirmed what exactly she did to him in the Epic version, I'm gonna just play it safe and not like her. Because a woman forcing herself upon a man, especially a woman who's a GODDESS, is just as unacceptable as if a man to do that to a woman.
@boomgirlbucko2 ай бұрын
I'm glad you said the thing about how liking a character doesn't mean you condone their actions. I mean, I like Emporer Belos, does that mean I enjoy mads genocide and religious manipulation? Obviously not. But his character is still cool.

Even if she doesn’t r*pe him in this version, she’s sexually harassing him at *best*. He keeps saying no, he has a wife he’s not a pet etc and she keeps ignoring his boundaries. Like I know Epic!Circe wasn’t actually intending to sleep with him but I like her way more because even if her trying to seduce him was acting, she actually stopped and didn’t, you know, keep him trapped there for years. She seems to genuinely respect Ody’s love for Penelope. (Which is also why I feel weird when people say that these versions of Circe and Calypso would be friends. Like at least this version of Circe is implied to have been assaulted in the past and this Calypso may or may not be a rapist so… Like no shade to people’s headcanons it just feels off to me). Yeah I like this version of Calypso, I like her song, but I still wanna str*ngle her. 😅

Even if she doesn't r*pe Odysseus in this version, she's sexually harassing him at *best*. He keeps saying no, he has a wife he's not a a pet etc and she keeps ignoring his boundaries. To the point where he was literally thinking about comitting su*cide. Like I know Epic!Circe was acting when she was trying to "seduce" Ody, but the fact that she actually stopped and helped him get home with no strings attached makes me like her way more than Calypso. She seemed to truly respect the love he had for Penelope whereas Calypso? Nah she doesn't care about that and it's creepy as hell. (This is also why I feel a little weird when people headcanon that these versions of Calypso and Circe would be friends. No shade to people's headcanons and I get that they are both beautiful sorceresses/goddesses who live on islands and are similar in a few ways, but this version of Circe is at least implied to have been assaulted herself. So I don't know if I could see her being friends with someone like Calypso). I hate Odyssey and Epic!Calypso (She's probably one of my least favorite characters so far next to Antinous) I love her song, but man do I want to str*ngle her. 😅

She doesn't do anything to him in the musical, next saga has a song that makes us feel for her and jay obviously won't write a song like that for someone who does that , I know what she does in the odyssey but that doesn't happen in epic she is a different character here
@bagszi2 ай бұрын
I'm pretty sure that Epic's Calypso is much different than the original and it absolutely wouldn't surprise me if it turns out that this calypso never forced him into bed. I mean there are some clues about it, one being Athena's claim that he never cheated on his wife, there were also a song snippet where Odysseus lies to Calypso and say something like "I know my attitude was jarring all these years, but i think i want more than a just meal tonight" - although i have no idea if it will stay in Vengence Saga or it was cut, but it does show that Jorge intended to not make Calypso a rpst. Also the 'I'm not sorry for loving you" song is almost entirely out and it just shows how lonely and actually in love Calypso is... And sure she is a goddess who kept Odysseus from leaving the island or dying --- which is the reason Ody is so misarable, since from his point of view all he sacraficed was meaningless because he cannot get home, but he can't even kill himself to end his misery and guilt, since Calypso don't want him to die. - but imagine being stuck on an island and then someone arrived and you fell in love and there is everything there to make you two happy, but instead him accepting this you have to keep him alive since he is so a broken mess, then the gods just tells you to let him go home, because we changed our mind and he suffered enough. Who cares about you being alone again and heartbroken? Noone cared about it before his arrival either! (Meanwhile all the other gods have luxury and freedome to fck anyone they fancy! :D) Anyway, i don't think this version of Calypso deserves the hate, just like Epic's version of Circe. They both have their reasons of why they did what they did and we can see more into their point of views in their songs. One of the things i like about this musical, it makes a lot of compelling arguement for each sides in majority of the situations. Yet we still see winions hating on Eurylochus or Calypso. I mean, even from the point of view of the Polyphemus is more understandable in Epic! A bunch of people went into his home, killed his favorite sheep, offered (drugged) wine in exchange, joked about his eye and then he attacked them so they blinded him and robbed him, then even lectured him for it.

Ok but tragic curse or not she’s still an abuser. Like you can be in love with someone and not force them into a relationship with you, or coerce them into emotional intimacy, or rape them. Lets not downplay the fact that Odysseus is a victim and is being abused just because the interpretation being used here of Calypso is the one struck with a love potion cursed.

Calypso being cursed to fall in love is something that comes from the Percy Jackson books not the original mythology. In the original mythology it's her choice to keep him trapped there for 7 years and Zeus has to send Hermes down to make her let him go.
