Love Irvine's 2nd Annual City Wide Serve Day was a huge success! There were 22 projects throughout the city with over 800 volunteers. Many groups participated such as Irvine Police, OC Fire, Scouts BSA, Crean Lutheran High School, and many churches. Here are some highlights and impact that we made in our community and around the world:
• Packed over 100,000 meals to help feed hungry kids in Kenya
• Collected over 200 pairs of eyeglasses to help people see better in Guatemala
• Harvested over 1,000 lbs. of green beans to feed people in Orange County
• Helped train Irvine senior citizens how to use smart phones and other technology
• Made 100 Welcome Home bags and blankets for the 2/11 Marine Battalion, Camp Pendleton
We hosted a Volunteer Appreciation Lunch where our Irvine Mayor, City Council, and local State Assembly showed up to thank volunteers. We also gave out Love Irvine T-shirts to all volunteers. There was a great sense of positive energy and civic pride throughout the city! @loveIrvineOC
