I loved how they firstly brought the racoon coat thing up as an absurd out of place joke and then in the end they made it a critical plot element out of the blue. I totally didn't see that coming. This is one of my favourite short films of all time.

If Max Shulman was alive.....he would have been so very PROUD of this performance of his short story. In high school...I read almost all of his books. Two of his novels were made into movies with famous actors and he had a long running weekly show for several years called "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" starring Dwane Hickman......and based on his book "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis". I admired Max Shulman so much.....I just wish I could have met him once....before he passed away....I think I was (and still am) one of his greatest fans!

From the first word, "racoon", I knew this would be an outstanding live action retelling of a short story that made a huge impression on me when I was 12 years old, about 40 years ago. This is AMAZING. The attention to detail is outstanding.

Loved it when I read the story. I could picture it in my head a lot more imaginatively, however I do realise that if I were to translate it to a movie, I just can't make it as great as the images arose in my mind when I first read it.

First off, Shulman was a brilliant writer. Dobie Gillis gets all the attention, but his best book is "Sleep 'Til Noon. But this is a great production that I guess I should expect to see from Culver City as opposed to, say, Sioux City or Traverse City. The movie theatre shot is clever: just splash some colored light on a building and you create a theater! The shot isn't on screen long enough for people to realize that it's just a building. The restaurant scene is clever, too. No hassle of getting permissions and scheduling a time to shoot in a restaurant. What are you doing now Duncan? 10 years later?
