Highlights from the #RoyalWedding.
"Imagine a world where love is the way."
American Bishop Michael Curry has captured the world's attention with a long and powerful address at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The Chicago-born bishop spoke passionately about the power of love, quoting Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
"There's power in love, don't underestimate it," he said. The wide-ranging and colourful speech was seen as a significant break from tradition.
The Most Reverend Michael Curry became the first black presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church - like the Church of England, part of the Anglican Communion - when he was appointed in 2015.
He has spoken out on social justice issues in the past, including LGBT rights and sexual abuse.
The address, replete with historical references, had churchgoers, including David Beckham and the Duchess of Cornwall smiling. Others appeared transfixed.
The bride and groom, who invited Bishop Curry to speak, sat near the preacher and held hands as they watched him speak.

@@akosuakune371 we know how to be happy but I guess we are taught to contain ourselves as much as possible from an early age, I didn’t realise this until recently because if it’s all you’ve ever known then you don’t question it, but the more I’ve taken note of how people behave who aren’t from England the more I’ve noticed how reserved we are. Obviously everyone is different and some don’t care and be as loud and out there as they want. I’d say that the higher in class you are the more poker face you are expected to be. Of course this is an extreme as it’s the Royal Family so they are always expected to be perfect and show little to no emotion, because they are the highest class in society. That must of been hard for Meghan coming from America where they are a lot more open with their feelings.

I think it's very sad that such a sermon was received with such disrespect. It's clear that the congregation are uncomfortable, laughing at the man, and mocking him with their smirks and sly looks, but it was horribly cruel of Meghan to engage this man and let him think he could preach a sermon from the heart in such surroundings. I daresay if he'd been properly informed then he would have delivered a wonderful and appropriate address. It's such a tragedy however, that a Christian can't preach a sermon in a so called Christian country, in a so called Christian church, at a so called Christian wedding, without being vilified and mocked for being "weird and wacky".😢

There are TONS of conditions, including at times, that you make sure you do not 'love mother and father more than Me', and even to 'hate your own life', at times. And it seems rebel angels were loved too - to keep powers, knowledge, and roam this world, whilst we are not trusted to make our own choices, without Adam and Eve altering our nature for us, first, curiously? In ways no angel ever had altered to them, before they made a choice - that Romans 1:20 implies was nonsensical anyway, especially in a perfect heaven.

William enjoys the passionate speech that he wasn't expecting :D Kate I think isn't trying to maintain her burst of laughs, she seems calm and that is her natural type of smile. Elton is either just old, or he pretty much understands the bishop that he feels the words. Now those two girls are definitely showing their "this is unexpected that this is funny how passionate the bishop is". Style over substance at its finest.... He was performing, not preaching. The subject of love was obvious and expected, but the content of his message was shallow and very repetitive. The queen wants sermons of 7 minutes max, but this man doubled that. He made it all about himself. The facial and bodily reactions of the brits are all too revealing of how they felt.... Curry even quoted political figures. This is not a political gathering. He was irreverent, bombastic, theatrical and totally inappropriate

MM Fogarty From an Occassion involving an exceptionally powerful and wealthy Royal family who have a past connected all over Europe with slavery I find this sermon v interesting in its choice of subject matter. For eg In the 1680s around 5000 Africans were shipped p year and their master had the initials DY branded on their behinds. DY stands for The Duke Of York. Just a small connection amongst much larger connections. Makes you wonder just WHO he was addressing!?

I'm a Catholic who prefers a more serious theological sermon that does not cater to feelings. I must admit that this sermon made me cringe a little. "Faith is not a feeling, Faith is an act of the will". We can speak about God with zeal in a calm and faithful way without too much emotional speech. The focus is on the spiritual power and intellectual coherence of the Truth that Christ taught.

As an American Episcopal priest I can't begin to express my admiration for the Rt Rev Bishop Curry's sermon. These sermons can so easily devolve into melodrama and sentimentality. Bishop Curry rose above that and delivered a homily that transcended the moment and indeed challenged the world to change. It was at once eloquent and courageous; he acknowledged the love of the couple, but elevated it to a new level of sacramental grace. In truth "Love is all we need!!!!"

As a Brit, I can fully understand how utterly 'alien' Bishop Curry's speech and loudness comes across - especially at a Royal wedding and in the presence of the Queen. We are just not that loud and brash and prefer to do things with a bit more quiet and with ease. However, this sermon was ultimately one of the highlights - especially seeing the utter bewilderment on the faces of Zara Tindall and Kate Middleton. William looked as though he was about to piss his pants with laughter and the Queen, bless her looked as though she was sucking a lemon! If anything, it was different and very American. I was both watching behind my cushion with my cheeks getting warm with embarrassment, but also rejoicing inside at the pure passion and conviction of the speech. Unforgettable to say the least....but has still left me scratching my head really lol 🖒. Chris (UK).

I listen to a lot of sermons because I am a Christian. This was a simple yet passionate and refreshing sermon. If one was given less than 15 minutes to summarize what life was supposed to be, it could very well be summed up in this sermon. The enthusiasm and life given this sermon reflects the determination of the old Black Slave Spirituals and Sermons of the days when folks who were spiritually exhausted needed to be "revived" and spured on to seek greater things in order to endure the trials of life. These days the main distraction is complacency and disinterest. That particular crowd needed to hear such a message. I'm used to 45 to 60 minute, three point exegetical messages, so this one wasn't that long.

you are all worried about candles. Then you totally missed what the entire message was about. This happens at so many weddings they focus on the visual not the message.

Who cares if it was "un-British" or "too long" or "too showboaty"? This guy was personally chosen by Meghan to do the address and - lest we forget - it was her wedding to Harry. Not mine, not anybody else's, theirs. Yes, we can have opinions, we can love him or loathe him (personally, I thought he was brilliant) but we shouldn't forget that we were nothing more than eavesdroppers on the whole thing. (Yes, OK, if like me you are a UK taxpayer, we funded most of it but it worked out to be what? £1.10 each or something? Loose change in the grand scheme of things) This was Meghan and Harry's day and, frankly, the only opinion that matters is theirs.

NOBODY'S OPINION MATTERS. ROYALTY WAS & IS ALWAYS ABOUT SELF PRESERVATION. POST MODERN ROYALTY'S ABOUT THAT AND PURE RURITANIAN FANTASY. THAT DEPENDS ON SELF DECEPTION. HENCE THE REASON WE HAVE THE OUTRAGEOUS LEVEL OF NON-WHITE IMMIGRATION INTO THE MOST HOMOGENOUS WHITE COUNTRY IN THE WORLD UNTIL POST WW2. ON THE BACKS OF SOCIOLOGICAL DISORIENTATION BORN OF THIS & LOSING THE BIGGEST EMPIRE IN HUMAN HISTORY AT LIGHTNING SPEED (WHICH THE YANKS TOOK FULL ADVANTAGE OF), WE'VE GOT A POPULAR ROYAL FAMILY & A CRYPTO COMMUNIST WAITING TO BECOME PRIME MINISTER. THERE IS MASSIVE TENSION IN BRITAIN. DON'T BE LULLED BY ROYAL EVENTS. IT'S A MILD FORM OF SEDATIVE. HAS BEEN SINCE 1660. PRINCE HENRY & THE NEW MRS. WINDSOR (NEE VON SAXE COBURG GOTHA SAALFELD - THEIR REAL NAME DROPPED IN 1915)DON'T THINK ABOUT INCONVENIENT FACTS LIKE THAT. I'M SURE PRINCE CHARLES & THE QUEEN DO. ROYALTY WILL CHANGE TO THE EXTENT OF CATERING TO THE FEW (NON-WHITES, SOCIOLOGISTS, GAYS, ETC) & IGNORING THE MANY (INDIGENOUS, STRAIGHT WHITES). RESULT = ROYALTY CANNOT SURVIVE THE 21'ST CENTURY. PS: PRINCE PHILLIP'S SURNAME IS VON SCHELSWIG-HOLSTEIN SONDERBERG-GLUCKBER. BY SLEIGHT OF HAND HE TOOK HIS WIFE'S NAME (WINDSOR) CHURCH OF ENGLAND MARRIAGE CEREMONY - A REVERSAL OF NORMAL PROCEDURE.THEY CAN MAKE IT UP AS THEY GO ALONG.

DarthJedi2005remixes He sounded like he ad libbed and extended his grandiose speech far longer than he should have. This occasion was not suppose to be about him.
