I love my 50mm Elmar f2.8. The collapse is actually really helpful for storing in a camera bag. Cool to see thypoch bringin back the style

Yes, it's a really fun lens. I'm a huge fan of what Thypoch are doing.

I was with you up to 50mm; which puts it out to 75mm for my camera. Right now, I’m looking at a 33-35mm but am thinking maybe really want 27mm. But, I did really like the images you showed with it. Thanks for sharing… 😊

Clearly fashioned after the Leica Summicron-M 5cm f/2.0 Collapsible lens. I had one on my very first 35MM camera, a Leica M3 back in the early 1970's. I wish I still had it! Thanks!

It is a modern rebuild of the Taylor Hobson 2 inch f2 Anstigmat to be exact. But that lens itself is arguably the british version of the v1 50mm summicron.

At this rate I won't safe any money with these budget lenses because I wanna buy them ALL and try them out :D I loooove that you are covering these

I *allllmost* bought this lens last week. I'm adapting it to an apsc Fuji x-pro, so I ended up going with Voigtlander 35mm 1.2 instead (actually, it just arrived 20 minutes ago!), but this is still tempting me something serious. I'm definitely keeping an eye on this company.

You mention the long minimal focus distance, but as this lens is so small and compact, it should be feasible to carry an extension tube or two, for those all-important travel food photos!

Colari vision sensor protective filters would be a great option to prevent it from sucking dust on the sensor

This is great. One of my very favourite camera-lens combinations I ever had was a Leica iiiG with a f2.8 collapsible Elmar.

I’m in the “it’s a gimmick category.” If you want a vintage or modern “look” use a vintage or modern lens. If you want something in between adjust your jpeg settings or do it in post with the raw images.

3:23 to my knowledge, distortion at normal focal length only really became a "problem" with modern lenses. Since distortion is very difficult to correct in the darkroom, good distortion correction in the lens actually was a lot more important back then. And a symmetrical lens like you can have on a rangefinder (or view camera) where you don't have a mirror box to content with should be easy to correct for some optical aberrations in the first place. The double Gauss optical archetype is over 120 years by now, they had a very long time to perfect it.

Interesting lens. Your description of the image quality almost sounds like it's similar to the early generation aspheric lenses - good sharpness and minimal CA but still retaining the 'bokeh' qualities of the old optical designs.

These line of lens are perfect (market positioned to be) for film M bodys, as an alternative to the vintage Leica lenses. I have the Leica summicron 50mm f2 collapsible and I love it, by far my most used lens on my M4. I got it for only 350 CAD a few years ago, but the price these days has since tripled... so not a good deal anymore for anyone looking for one. This one fits well for people looking for a collapsible M lens that has modern internal and the same vintage look that goes well with the body.

Wow, it’s a Leica Elmar 50mm that is f2 instead of f2.8. If it was cheaper I wouldn’t mind buying one to play with it.

Love or Hate!!?? I'm just terrified! I was scared to death to collapse my Leitz 50/2 Summar into my M3 for fear of damaging the shutter curtains.. This!? Collapsed into a body with a digital sensor!? OMG! lol (but I still want it… bad)

This should really be an LTM39 not an M mount to be period correct. I hope they do come out with an LTM39 version to use on older Leica film bodies.

I don't see how a lens with that many drawbacks can be called the 'coolest lens of the year'.
@markwiemels2 ай бұрын
Most things that are cool are not necessarily practical. Like a Ferrari or a Leica Camera.
