I was there at Calvary Chapel in those days. I saw all this as it happened. I was baptized by Chuck Smith in Corona Del Mar. It is impossible to explain this era to those who were not there. (I don't mean that pridefully). Now I am a pastor by God's grace.

Me too! My mom listened to Keith Green and 2nd Chapter of Acts but that was about it. I always like Keith and the other year started to explore more music from this time period. The Christian communities from this era are also really interesting and wish we had more of them today. JPUSA and a couple of others still exist. Great stuff!

I remember having a prayer meeting at my high school. It has left a giant impression on me. The prayer, the friends, the scriptures. We would use the desks and put them in a circle. If we used ten, ten people would show up. If we used twenty, twenty would show up. Once we used all but three or four desks in the classroom and each chair had someone sitting down by the time it was over. This happened all the time. I tell people that God will move according to your expectations and that they should expect more. Also, the circle of prayer was powerful. I could feel the presence of God with me all day! As far as the song goes, I remember going to their concert in Moore, Ok. with a van load of high schoolers. I didn't know any of them except for the one who invited me and he was busy socializing with everyone but me. I didn't care though. And then when we got to the concert everyone left me behind. I didn't have anyone to walk in with. I didn't even know where they were seated. I did hear this and a few other songs. This one touched me the most. I didn't finish the concert though. I was afraid they would leave without me so I went back and sat in the van. Now, it was just yesterday that I heard this song playing and I realized that I wanted to go meet God during this song, but again, I didn't want to be left behind. Yesterday I remember feeling like this, "I was waiting for you to show up, God! I needed you so desperately. I, neede you, so desperately. I didn't have a chance to come and meet you, but I'm ready now. ...I'm ready, now."

When I was 15 I sang this to a group of 700 young high school women. I had led singing for the weekend for a Lion's Club girls camp. We had one Muslim adult participating so we didn't use the name of Jesus for the singing in the Bible belt. When I sang this song without instruments it was to women in an outdoor amphitheater. It must have sounded fine. They stood up when they clapped. I forget about that memory. Someone asked what my favorite song might be. This might be it.

I'm looking for a song that goes something like, 'A man came to me, and said "Do you want to be free?" And I said, "Show me."' It was from around this place and time. Any ideas what the song was called or where I could find it?

The song is performed in the film 'Jesus People' (1972), which is on KZbin at kzbin.info/www/bejne/jp64p6GEaNKnq8U . The song is at 30:31--32:38. Don't know more about it but there were people trying to track it down at www.namethathymn.com/hymn-lyrics-detective-forum/index.php?a=vtopic&t=14555 .

If what Jesus said and did is not real and that the church is still in existence today then what is real? Jesus said" I am the way the truth and the life". I ask you what is truth?
@AuSands18 жыл бұрын
Edward Cherry Here's what's real as far as I've been able to find based on documents dating back to biblical times. There's not much we know about the actual life of Jesus. After he died hundreds of stories & ideas developed and spread about what he had taught. Eighty to hundred years passed and still he did not return and set up his kingdom as many had expected him too. About 40 ADC ??? St. Paul came along and dramatically changed everything stating that Jesus was the Christ and spoke of a vertical kingdom not horizontal and that His Kingdom was one that would come from above. The church and elders in Jerusalem with "James the Just" as head became great enemies towards Paul but after about 10-20 years?? became more accepting. The Gospels were created to tell a story of who Jesus was. First the book of Mark and then the others later. Which look like a scrap book of bits of information perhaps. But there were hundreds of Gospels in the first hundred years. "The Gnostic's" as it was became a problem and I think it was Constantine? who ordered that there be ONE STORY and all the others banned. If you did not comply you were killed or driven out of the land. You think maybe it was Matthew who took notes on a daily basis in those years with Jesus. Most of the people following were peasants who were unable to read or write. Jesus said and did things? The Hebrew people are known for keeping God's Word accurate for hundreds of years but here the story is not written in stone as it were till many years later. The book of Acts was written ten years after Paul died isn't that rather strange? About four years ago I decided that if Eternity and Heaven & Hell are Real I need to be able to give hard core facts that I can share with my family and others. The reality of Hell is important enough that they deserve to be able to see credible & tangible information that shows the realty of it and not just "Well we just know what others know" (And actually Hell seems to be a concept borrowed from the Babylonians and adapted by the Jews starting from the time of their captivity in Babylon. It doesn't exist in scripture until then.) The Church has existed so long for many reasons most of which I think because in days like 300 AD to 1500 AD you were killed for God and the Queen the same way I kill flies in the kitchen. And then of course "Fundamentalism" developed in the 1870's as a response too Darwinism which proclaims that Scripture is actual truth. For more than a thousand years in Church History scripture was more seen as ideas and concepts of Truth. Look it up. For more than thirty years I sat in church when I should have spent some time to see if it's possible to know down to some nitty gritty. Everything that I've found so far tends to say it's a snowball
@AuSands18 жыл бұрын
Edward Cherry Still there are some things though that I've not been able to explain. How the Power of Christ and the Holy Spirit in someones life can be so real. And demonic activity that seems to be outside and removed from any human influence can be so real as well. I've known and experienced both and have my ideas why it happens. Personally I think some things are just a part of just normal quantum physics and it's a return of what seems to just normal life. In my own life it is a matter of birthdays, people and events. I'm very anti-social and only know a handful of people but of those people at least half of them have the same birthday as people in my nearest family. To me that's about as likely as winning the lottery. There's both good and bad to the mix as if God is up to some cruel joke or just both good and bad.
@oldfart2698 жыл бұрын
God IS up to something, and, yes, it IS both good and bad. If you are alive, alert and breathing, then you have the opportunity to take part in the good news, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that He came into the world to save sinners, and will soon return to claim his flock. The bad news is that Satan, and all who follow him, are bound for a place called hell. Jesus described hell very succinctly. He said that it is a place of fire (Gehenna) and torment (Tartarus). Not a good place to be, in anyone's book! Let me ask you something. How can you claim Jesus to be a snowball myth, and give credence to the existence of demons and their power over people? This very principle is why Jesus came, to save us from Satan and his demons. and to assure us a place with Him. The Apostle Paul said it best: If we as believers, have no hope in Christ when we die, we are of all men most miserable." Dig down deep. There is a spark buried deep within you. Let it ignite and burn as it once did. I'm not going to ask you why, after 38 years you decided to hang it all up, that is between you and God. As long as you have breath, though, you have the opportunity to make things right with Him and start over. Jesus IS coming again, and very soon! Go back into your Bible, if you still have one, and get your questions answered. If you have trouble getting the answers you need, talk to someone who is a firm believer in the truth of the Bible. I would even be willing to help you.
