Love All Trains (Trains)

Love All Trains (Trains)

Күн бұрын

I grew up with this fantastic hour special program produced by the National Geographic Society about the joy of trains.
This program highlights excursions by the Chesapeake & Ohio steam locomotive, #2716, when it was run by the Southern Railway in the early 1980's. It also showcases the 7-1/2" gauge live steam hobby with footage of the Goleta Valley Railroad Club, riding steam trains and rail buses in Ecuador, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Britt Iowa's Annual Hobo Celebrations, a special excursion of the Orient Express, and others!

I remember watching this on VHS with my grandpa when I was younger. He is obsessed with Trains and passed that same love for them down to me. It was great to see this nostalgic video again!

Thank you for posting this video. As a kid, I was given this VHS and it had always inspired me to pursue a career with the railroad and I did, I became a conductor for BNSF. It really brings me back.

Blimey!! I haven't seen this since I was four years old. My parents taped it for me and it was my first introduction to American and continental steam traction.

Southern 2716 is under restoration John Bull is officially retired! Goleta Valley Railroad is gone as of 1992 with the land now redeveloped for homes Bitter Creek Railway owns the 4752| 4014 LIVES!! the railway in Ecuador is blocked by a landslide & they still use those bus railcars! Don't think there are any mines in Silverton now Britt, Iowa still does Hobo Days! Salad Bow Express was taken over by trucks after 1982 Orient Express still runs but no longer starts in Paris

The _real_ Orient Express no longer runs. However, there is a reenacment train running with original coaches from the UK, through France and Switzerland to Venice. It's called the Venice-Orient Express.

Sadly five years later after 2716s excursion, , that open car and heavyweight baggage were both scrapped during the swamp derailment. Missionary Ridge and Queen & Crescent Club are no longer in existance.

Tom Chapin sang "Chattanooga Choo Choo." Tom is the brother of the late Harry Chapin of "Cat's in the Cradle" and "Taxi" fame. Later in "Love Those Trains" at 37:14, Tom wrote and sang "A Dollar a Day" during the building of the transcontinental railroad sequence.
