LOVE WILL: Sammy and Johnny's Story

Sammy and Johnny were struggling in the womb. Laser ablation surgery gave them a chance at life.
Twins Johnny and Sammy had a rare, prenatal disorder called twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS).
Once their parents Jeannie and Kory were referred to Children’s Mercy, fetal health specialists told them about Selective Fetoscopic Laser Photocoagulation (SFLP), a treatment used for the most severe cases of TTTS. Known simply as laser surgery, SFLP was performed, using a microscopic camera and laser fiber to help evenly distribute blood flow to both Johnny and Sammy.
Although the surgery was a success, both twins were born at 25 weeks, weighing just 2 pounds each. Fortunately, specialists at the Children’s Mercy NICU were able to stabilize the twins and today, Johnny and Sammy are 16-months old and enjoy playing on the swings at the park near their home and chasing their white Labrador, Snow. Like all identical twins, they share a lot -including an experience that proves Love Will find answers.
