Lovebites have not one weak song available on YT and you should listen to all of them. Having fallen down the rabbit hole of female Japanese metal/rock bands myself lately, Lovebites is the one that impresses me most because of their great compositions influenced by classical music and their instrumental -talent- _mastery_ (counting the vocals as an instrument, too).

Not trying to sound arrogant, because I’m not a musician, but neither am I deaf…your reaction is typical of people who understand what they are listening to and have enough musical experience, either playing or listening wise to immediately understand the virtuosity of LOVEBITES. As you said no more than 20 seconds after the instruments kicked in, the level of talent they have is immediately apparent. And it just gets better, consistently, album to album, live performance to live performance. They write material that they find difficult to play, practice and practice until it’s no longer a challenge, record it and, in every case, perform live what fans really thought they wouldn’t manage. I discovered them almost three years ago and have become obsessed with them. They are a breath of fresh air in the music industry, not only sonically but personally. They are really great personalities, incredibly positive, light hearted and funny and very, very loyal to their fans which is reciprocated and forms a continuous feedback loop and a bond that is unbreakable. I sincerely see them as the best band I’ve ever experienced in 50 years of listening to guitar driven rock and metal and by best I do include any and all before them. You won’t ever hear a song by LOVEBITES that is not up to the standard you just heard. That’s not an opinion, it’s a plain and simple fact. I look forward to seeing you coming to the same conclusion.

A very pleasant reaction video to one of Lovebite's power ballads from an enthusiastic experienced music fan. Thank you. However, I must tell you that this song is rather atypical of the current 2023 Lovebites women. Would be nice to see some more reaction video from you to Lovebites, especially to their legendary thrash and speedmetal tracks. Here is a little history to this unique BAND : Lovebites has been around since 2016, and the women became more famous worldwide after performing at several major festivals, mainly in Europe, starting in 2018 - Wacken - Open Air in Germany 2018 - Bloodstock Open Air in England 2019 - Graspop Metal Meeting Festival in Belgium 2019 - Download Festival in Spain. In 2020, their career was abruptly interrupted by Corona. But they masterfully overcame the crisis, got married and had babies. In 2021 the founder Miho left the band for personal reasons and it went into a hiatus which lasted until the end of 2022. In the fall of 2022 they found a young fantastic bass player and in 2023 they released a new LP. The new LP reached the 5th place in the Japanese charts. Japan is the 2nd largest music market in the world and it is very rare that in these times a rock band comes so far forward. Members : Asami : Vocals, Piano🎤 Haruna Ishikawa : Drums🥁 Midori Tatematsu : Lead Guitar, backing vocals 🎸 Miyako Watanabe : Lead Guitar, Keyboard , Piano, Keytar, backing vocals🎸🎹 FAMI : Bass🎸 Founder : Miho Rosana : Bass (2016-2021)🎸 INFO : Miyako + Midori are the best guitar duo in 3 decades ! Welcome to LOVEBITES 🤘🏼🐺🔥 The band is around since 2016 and released their first EP and album in 2017. At this point they have 4 albums, some singles and EPs and also 4 official live DVD/Blu-ray releases. They just finished their Japan tour. This video is taken from their comeback show in march 2023. Their first live gig since 2021 and first show with their new bassist Fami. They’ve already toured in Europe back in 2018/2019, including the major metal festivals as Wacken, Download, Bloodstock, Graspop. Then came Covid, their original bass player and founder Miho quit the band, two babies were born. Then LOVEBITES came back with new bassist and new song in late 2022. New album came out in February 2023. Now we, the Wolfpack, are all hoping for a world tour next year … The band: Asami vocals, most of the lyrics, song writing - the one and only voice Miyako guitar, pianos, keyboards, main composer - the golden touch Midori guitar, songwriting for a few songs - crazy shredder Haruna drums, wrote one of their songs - little big engine Fami bass - shining fingers (Miho bass, song writing and founder - natural born headbanger)

Thank you for your reaction to LOVEBITES. LOVEBITES has about 60 songs. Please keep up the good work LOVEBITES. LOVEBITES was formed in 2016 by Miho(Ba) and Haruna(Dr), members of the band "DESTROSE", which went on hiatus in 2015. The girls made their major label debut in 2017 (March 24) with "THE LOVEBITES EP". On 18 June 2018, LOVEBITES won 'BEST NEW BAND' at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2018 awards organised by the British metal magazine METAL HAMMER. On 4 August, LOVEBITES performed on the W.E.T stage at WACKEN OPEN AIR 2018, one of the world's largest annual metal festivals in Germany, with the 10,000 capacity venue almost full. "Bloodstack open air 2018(Aug. 10)" also participated. On August 20,2018, LOVEBITES announced that it has partnered with X-ray Touring, one of the largest players in the UK booking agent industry. LOVEBITES toured the Netherlands, Germany, France and UK from November 13-21, 2018. Asami (Vo) of LOVEBITES appeared as a guest on stage at Halestorm "Download Japan 2019(March 21)", singing alongside "Lzzy" Hale on Halestorm's 'Love Bites', which gave the band their name. I participated in "dowload Festival 2019(June 15)". And Asami of LOVEBITES appeared as a guest on stage at Halestorm Download Festival UK 2019, singing alongside "Lzzy" Hale on Halestorm's "Love Bites" again after Japan. LOVEBITES join DragonForce on UK tour 2019(Nov. 2-14). On 2 December 2019, LOVEBITES was the support act for the Tokyo leg of Halestorm's Japan tour. Asami(Vo) Miyako(G - Key ‐ Piano Black hair) Midori(G) Haruna(Dr) Miho(Ba) First Bassist New bassist from 'JUDGEMENT DAY' songs. Fami(Ba) New Bassist The bassist who played this live was Fami. On 17 August 2021, LOVEBITES took an extended break after the departure of their leader, bassist Miho. The fact that many female bands come from Japan also has something to do with the school. At many schools, extra music or sports are offered. The boys go more to sports, the girls more to music. Then in the metropolises, many clubs have a complete system where you only have to bring your instrument or what the drummer needs personally. This makes it much easier for small performances. Even in the Japanese middle class there is the opinion that you should learn an instrument as a child. Not now the electric guitar, but rather piano and violin. Many break out there and then do the opposite ... metal :) I eigendlich always assume that if a Japanese musician is on stage, then she has mastered her instrument. Before she does not face the large audience. The musicians usually know each other, have also played together often. The age of the musicians is between 20-40 (roughly estimated) some are multiple mothers.
@ahodori-dl5hz Жыл бұрын
As for your opinion about the audience, it is not that the Japanese are quiet. In Japan, concerts and other large events have been restricted due to the pandemic lockdown since 2020. Spectators were required to wear masks, sit in well-spaced chairs, and were not allowed to shout. These restrictions were lifted this spring. Besides, Japanese people behave so that musicians can play comfortably until the end, so they listen quietly during ballad songs.

Awesome, funny that you mention the piano as this song is also played with a piano + vocals intro instead of just vocals. Really like this song and this performance live is fantastic. Welcome to the realm of the Wolfpack (Lovebites fans around the world). Even though a lot of their songs have influences from the likes of Iron Maiden, their music is best described as a seamless and innovative blend of speed-power/thrash/prog/neoclassical metal/heavy rock/power ballads which makes their sound unique. The brunette lead guitarist on stage left, Miyako, has been classically -trained on the piano since she was 3 years old and if you want to see her play the piano in a neoclassical metal track, I recommend "Swan Song with Chopin intro" LIVE : kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXPLpaSdnr14d5Y . You should be aware that just like Band-Maid the band records those backing tracks themselves because you cannot play two instruments at once. Haruna the drummer and Akane Hirose Band-Maid's drummer are the very best of friends. Further, Miyako, lead guitarist with the dark hair, is a symphony level piano player. You should hear her perform Chopin. If she played for ANY world class symphony it would be an upgrade over the previous pianist. The female situation in Japan is far too complex to go into here but it is totally unlike any assumptions we might make. The biggest reason the musicians as a whole steal western bands' lunch money is because music is a required course in primary and secondary schools in Japan.
@MikeReichert Жыл бұрын
I generally assume it to be the case when I see artists use tracks that they have recorded those themselves, that's how I've always done it as well, although played live with a band that uses tracks for at least ten years now. It's wonderful that music is required in Japanese schools! Thanks for watching. I will definitely be continuing down the rabbit hole of bands from there and elsewhere!

The bassist Miho (no longer with Lovebites) was asked why there are so many female bands. She said all the clubs in Japan are fully equipped. Your group just shows up with guitars and drum sticks. This gives any young band a chance to play live at a small venue without the hassel of equipment logistics. Your group can just focus on playing and developing skills.

The scariest thing about Miyako and Midori ( the guitarists ) is that neither of them started playing guitar until they were in their VERY late teens - and Miyako ( the dark haired one ) is self taught ! One major advantage Japan has that allows girls to take up rock band instruments are the music clubs in high schools where a lot of the equipment is already provided. A girl can decide she wants to learn guitar and the school will have near professional level equipment, including loaning instruments, or she can buy a high quality budget beginner guitar/bass. There no cist barrier where a parent or the kid nrrds to cone up with thousands of dollars to learn an instrument. Cafe clubs also have most of the equipment necessary for a show, including drums, so a girl(s) can literally get on the train with a back pack guitar case and do an amateur night show without having to lug around all this heavy equipment. A lot of them also start out real young playing classical piano so by the time they get to teenage years and get into rock/metal they already have a grasp of music theory as well as finger dexterity.

I just commented under another of your reactions: Your reaction at about 7:00 is very honest and therefore so likeable. The main reason why so many Japanese female bands play in another league of rock and metal far above most bands from the US / UK is the following: Most of them are daughters from middle class families, learning piano at the age of 3 or 4 years and at the age of about 15 the chose their main instrument, ex. drums or guitar etc. The driving force behind their music is a revolt against the traditional Japanese society with the constraint roles for girls and women. In addition, J-pop and anime industry makes it easier to make a living as a musician. There are a lot of (private) music schools, female only music competitions and a whole music infrastructure. The US market is dominated by a handful of big enterprises which take decisions about style and music of a newcomer band, not so much the musicians themselves. That's why most US songs are so streamlined to the taste of average listeners and hence boring. The Japanese bands are not in the same way chained by their producers. Many US reactors say "these bands are so talented". For sure they are. But they also did undergo a kind of (often painful) "military-style drill", years of daily disciplined practising and training. I'm no so sure you would be in their place😇😜.

a great reaction, mike. this band is really something else. since the algorythm sugested them to me five years ago, they are undoubtely my favourite band. this show was the first one after an over two year hiatus (covid, bassplayer left, marriage, children) and the first big show with new bassplayer fami. I suggest as next "the hammer of wrath" from the same show. I think, the band with the violinist might be unlucky morpheus. apropos violin: end of august a superband/project of top tier japanese metal ladies put out their first single: "Evolvr" from "East of Eden".. for me already song of the year. do not miss. And I´ve seen, that you haven´t reacted to Hanabie yet. a must. check out their song "we love sweets" and your world will never be the same again.

There's very little crowd interaction in the USA because EVERYONE has a phone in the air! It's to the point now that I don't care to go to concerts because ALL I see is THOUSANDS of bright screens in front of me. Man I miss the 70's and 80's concerts. Yea, yea...I'll get off my soapbox now.

Salud y Rock and Roll , y muy buena reacción . 👌🤘

Well spotted with the piano. The dark haired guitarist Miyako is a very good pianist (she was fairly late taking up guitar) and that is incorporated in some of their numbers. And as someone has mentioned, you were probably thinking of the band Unlucky Morpheus, which has Jill as violinist. There's another violinist called Ayasa who's just assembled a five-piece band called East of Eden, but I think that's too recent for you to have seen previously.

Rock music in Japan is an imitation from abroad and has no tradition. Therefore, there are no restrictions on what rock music must be, and it is normal for women to play rock music, to wear whatever they like, and to fuse genres.
@cepho8349 Жыл бұрын
No tradition? Sure, it originated outside of Japan, but there have been Japanese rock and metal bands for decades, so I would definitely say that there is a tradition at this point.

As far as a violin player in a metal band, you have Jill who is a member of Unlucky Morpheus (2 women, 4 men band) and their sub unit Quadratum, she did a guest spot with Fate Gear on Sky Pirate (all female band) and Hizaki's solo instrumental project. You also have Chieko Kinbara a solo artist who made guest spot with Aldious (all female band) on a few song like Marigold. If you thought it was great music, it could be any of those acts

Besides The wolfpacks have great comments about LOVEBITES as usual. As a Japanese, I may be able to explain your last comment about it. It is true that Japanese women are not (used to be) expected to have higher education or social status like you said Doctors or lawyers. So I think they can freely take on various challenges, but that's only possible when they're young. On the other hand, once they get married, will be responsible for raising children and doing all the housework I mean all the shit works. will no longer to be free. Of course, this has been changing social norm in Japan since the late 1990s tho. (maybe you heard about it about Japan yes it's true, for me I'm doing wash dishes and cleaning my house including baby-sitting. that's generation x parents do, C'est la vie!) Gender discrimination is disappearing by adopting Western ideas. (However, even now, there is still no improvement in women's employment in Japan. that's other issues btw) On the other hand, the Japanese music industry has been glow as expressed freely any genre. It would be too long to talk about this, so regarding HR/HM in the 80s, the legend bands from the UK, the US, as well as Germany and other European countries, they performed many times in Japan. If you're a metal head, you'll probably know which bands what I'm talking about it. Around the same time, there was we called a band booming in 80S and then many bands were born. Among them, some bands became popular overseas such as Loudness and XJAPAN etc. I assume that this generation became parents and listened together with their kids. it might influence by that. Also, as we know, there are not many Japanese understand English fluently than in other countries, so JPN metal kids tend to listen by feeling and also how much they shredding guitars. even guitar magazine used to sell Zakk Wylde guitar lesson video. maybe only in JPN. oh yes everyone wants to be Randy Rhoads. I became to understand as an adult is that the Japanese musical instrument industry has also developed well at the same time. Yamaha, Roland, Casio, ESP, BOSS so do speak. Also Yamaha established private coaching school for easily learn piano, guitar, and drums and parents flock about it and expect a child became as Mozart which never happens.(excluding Miyako san!) It's cliche for Japanese women that they were sent to Yamaha classes when they were little, but later can't play musical instruments any more. It's just my personal opinion tho.
