the "wow wow wow" part is like an anthem for Lovebites and fans themselves. The song is great for closing the concerts (along with "We The United")

About Midori's guitar strings. Midori uses Elixer Nanoweb, 009-042 for regular tuning(purple guitar) and 009-046 for drop-D tuning(black guitar). Miyako uses SIT strings, but I don't know the guage.

The fact that she plays such a light gauge of strings without breaking them makes me even more impressed by her ability as a player

This is the second in the pair off Battle Against damnation that Miyako credits Rachmaninov. Apparently she wrote Above the Black Sea based on a theme in piano concerto 2, then challenged collaborator Mao to use the same theme for this song, Then Asami took over with lyrics, one (I think this one) is a sequel (finding hope) to their song Apocalypse, which was basically about the Hiroshima bombing. The strings and choir were arranged by Mao (& piped in, played to track, which gives new spin to what Haruna has to manage, drumming at this speed!). My favorite song btw, tho I do argue with myself...

Shaun, love the koolaid reference!,didn’t think anybody else remembered that iconic ad... I forgot to mention, the keys in the breakdown where Midori (our right in this older show) plays slide, it’s actually a main theme from their song Hammer of Wrath. They reuse the opening acoustic theme in Addicted as well, both at the end of that song, and modified for the end of Epilogue. I love subtle but thoughtful additions like that. By now you must’ve heard of Destrose. Check out how young Miho and Haruna are (tho I think redhead Narumi is younger) on their live dvd 2013, and their playful hair! Narumi has solo cd, played last fall with Aldious (incl at NAMM in January) and is starting a new band now. Singer Marina now fronts Mardelas. And blonde guitarist Mina, after her whole band quit a second time (to become Mary’s Blood ~2009 and Disqualia~2015) regrouped & rebranded as Fate Gear (who re-recorded this song). This performance includes introductions... Enjoy. Destrose(rose of destruction) - Headless Goddess live 2013 kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXulkJ2MmdCnY68

Such a great band! There is so much great music coming out of Japan, and so many people in the US just have no idea that there are killer bands anymore since all you hear on the radio is... radio music. Keep spreading the word, they are one view by the right person from greatness. :-)

When I first heard "Lovebites" two years ago I immediately fell in love, they brought back what we are missing here nowadays, explosiveness, excitement, and the true sense of metal. One day they are going to break it here in America, so please keep up the awesome job of exposing them.

The more I've listened to them, I think they've had plans to go into the western markets from the beginning. Everything they've done seems to lead towards that eventuality, especially with how often they have toured in Europe. I think Babymetal showed the way - conquer the UK, conquer the world. They have followed that blueprint & I think they eventually want to break big in the US. They have all the talent to do just that.

You know, you're probably right, and I can't wait for it to happen! The fabricated popstars won't know what his them when Lovebites comes to town.
@timgove53374 жыл бұрын
They’ve explicitly targeted England. Their first full show was in London (less than 2.5 yrs ago! And released ~40songs!) They are a machine designed to play European classic heavymetal incl thrash, combined with sometimes-symphonic powermetal, which meshes well with any leftover Japanese musical influence, and they even chose to re- write,record,&release their only Japanese language song (Bravehearted from first EP, not the Awakened version rewrite) so they could hold shows exclusively in English. Some fun interviews available as references if you like... They have also explicitly said they want to play America/United States, but it seems they’ve had trouble finding representation (here).

Huge respect for these Ladies, they are awesome musicians for sure, but to be honest - and I know I will get grilled here for that 😊 - they never really catchend me for full. Mindblowing guitar Solos for sure, but the songwriting, for my taste, to predictable - they almost never surprise me really. It’s polished Speedmetal turned up to maximum speed, played in full perfection, designed for Western taste and that’s ok, just doesn’t hit me so much like many other Japanese Bands I love, they are probably the least unique one of those bands in my opinion. And yes, I know their full catalogue and yes even if I scratch a bit on the hype, still a great band no doubt, I bought all their albums and seen them four times live. Fabulous concerts, but also not my most moving live experiences.. But great reaction as always and they deserve every support possible.
@timgove53374 жыл бұрын
cholatse They are retro for sure. I hear you , no problem. On the point of songwriting, they are in the advanced class (with Mao especially), but between being polished and you being used to Japanese popular chord changes (as opposed to simpler western pop), western ‘advanced’ prog Metal (which they do dabble in, but barely) is just not as impressive. But there are plenty of extra beats, key changes (some predictable), major 2 chords, true diminished chords (where power chord is both simpler and easier to sound good with distortion), etc, that they are keeping my attention. 👍🤘🎸💃😎
@cholatse67454 жыл бұрын
Tim Gove Yes, fully agree with your points. As I said, a great band and the ladies own their instruments no doubt, and blow most of the Western bands out of the pound. I’ll keep following them for sure. It’s just ... it often feels to me a bit to calculated to fit the western taste, compared to bands like GacharicSpin, the Mutant Monster, FateGear, Bridear and of course the mighty Maids per example and many more.
@timgove53374 жыл бұрын
cholatse Those practically the only bands I’ve purchased! Gacharic Spin/Doll$Boxx, Kiyoshi/MartyFriedman, Narumi solo, BandMaid, lovebites, and I owe BabyMetal and LisaX for sooo many free listens... Bridear & Mary’s Blood next, certain impeccable songs by Mardelas and Octaviagrace (having tracked down Destrose peeps)... And I’m picky about live; most of these bands have great DVDs, but Lovebites may have debuted too early, gotten too big too fast. They’re dealing with it well, but occasionally aren’t as polished, and they set themselves up with all those harmonies, that perfection is expected. Cheers

Whole of Lovebites catalogue is great. They don't write good songs. Not one good song in their library. Lovebites only write masterpieces. Miyako uses .09 but not sure about Midori. She is probably same.
