Sorry to be that guy, but the Defender didn't get that name until 1990, not 1983. It went from the Land Rover Series III to just the Land Rover 90/110 in 1983 then in 1990 for the launch/update when the 200tdi came out it got changed to Defender 90/110

Same here. When our Disco 3 has had enough, we'll get a Defender. The Disco has been brilliant though, on and off road.

In India we shall probably have to wait till 2030 for the vehicle to become affordable even after depreciation kicks in. And the sad thing is we just get the option of the 4 cylinder 2 litre Diesel here which I think is underpowered for such a big heavy vehicle.

Tiff is a legend. One of the greatest driver’s I’ve ever seen. Never forget how he handled the Mitsubishi Evo’s in the 90’s in the old top gear, pure badass.

Where i work, we make the exhaust system for the new defender, and ship them to Slovakia, and also most JLR, vehicles, Range rover and Jags etc.

I was looking up why the original Landy was created this evening for some reason. Apparently, one of those reasons was that we had to ship most of the 200,000 Jeeps that the US had lent us to play around with during WWII back to the US between 1946 and 1948. Well, it was called "lend lease" I suppose. But who would have thunk it!

I really like the look of the new Defender, it's modern can do all the old one did but a lot more comfort and can handle being on the normal roads at speed as well. I am sure old Defender purists hate it, but I think Land Rover pulled off the impossible.

I do love this car. But I'd be happy for them to reduce the cost by stripping out some gadgets and making it more utilitarian. The safety, off road capability, engines etc are all good. I don't need all the features as standard.

Used to drive an old 110 defender for railway incident response, absolute dog of a car travelling 50 miles to get to the incident but fantastic once you get through the access gate, then a dog of a car driving 50 miles back to the office, I’d much prefer the new defender in that job

Have you seen Toyota's Land Cruiser in North America? One V8 gas engine and luxury speck interior. We don't get any diesels or cloth upholstery at lower prices, because American trucks own the value market. Even a Tacoma (similar to Hilux) is often beaten on price by F150s.

great for a 20 minute blast through mud and slush, but 10 days across a few tracks in Australia and the rims are stuffed, the air suspension will die. The electronics will fail. Take your sat phone so you can be rescued.

It's a nice looking vehicle and will probably go off road better than the previous one. But 90% of these Defender's will probably only tackle the speed bumps outside the schools and supermarkets of Britain and the only hard work will be towing clip clop to the show jumping event.

Looks very much like a bought and paid for review. This car can't venture far from Civilization. This car can't be modified with aftermarket parts. This is not a real defender. It's an LR5.

i would agree with hammond. call it a discovery, excelent. but for a defender its got too many fancy electronics/gadgets that with LRs reliability will all fail and cost a fortune to fix, the defenders big thing was that it didnt have anything fancy and by extension nothing fancy that will fail.
