Darkest Dungeon is basically a loveletter to Lovecraft, even the developer's name Red Hook is a reference, and this story is particularly connected, as the premises are somewhat similar in regards to finding an ancient and terrible secret lair underneath an old family castle. The ancestor speaks Lovecraft fluently as well, the "Ruin has come to out family" speech could easily have been the opening of a Lovecraft story. :)

But I think that fits the tone if a guy trying to divorce himself from an undisclosed mental illness, a bloody history of colonialism and exploitation. He pretends that it is a vestige of the past, but three hours in the dark proved that wrong. @@elizabethlee2136 thats a nice analysis but I kinda think your reading to much into it as far as the cat anyhow. If you can't read it unedited don't read it. *edit 7/2021: After revisiting this debate I can (somewhat) see both sides. The word is horrifically jarring so I get the push for sanitization. I detest censorship, but the original is extant so this version is a one-off. I think a good solution to this is to add: "Edited for content" to the video title. Network television does it, and it lets me know to change the channel. I doubt MSA 21 will do it though. Comments help algorithms. Later, Kitty-cats.

Too bad that literature has to be so sanitized that the name of a cat, in a time when certain monikers we feel ashamed of now, has to be removed from possibly the greatest writer of horror and dark fantastic worlds intertwined into our own. Is society so sadly triggered that this has to happen? Apparently so. How shameful for us that we should be so stupidly oversensitive.
@fransmikola65084 жыл бұрын
How much did this subtle change actually undermine the actual narrative? Ironically you seem very triggered about the notion that some people are triggered.
@the-trustees4 жыл бұрын
@@fransmikola6508 When a tiny minority of a society get away with doing something damaging to that society, it should be fought against every way possible. That so much of our society is actually taking cues from these loudmouth, regressive asshats is truly confusing and worthy of a trigger now and again... but my post was not one. I wonder how the religious zealots would feel if it were THEIR books being rewritten because of the perpetually offended.

@@the-trustees Now you have my interest. I'm curious as to what "damage to society" has been done by someone choosing not to say something that makes them, or that they suppose would make others, uncomfortable. @Anele10974 жыл бұрын
@@the-trustees Also loving the implication that anyone sensitive towards the casual use of harmful language or who are empathetic to such are automatically "loudmouthed regressives" who somehow exist outside of "our society"... As you implied it's just a word. Chill out and stop being so triggered. Keep in mind you're talking to a fan of Alan Moore here, but even I know thick skin isn't compulsory, nor should it be. Individualism and that.
@the-trustees4 жыл бұрын
@@Anele1097 The damage comes in the attempt to force society as a whole to adhere to THEIR view which, unlike feminism of the past, promotes superiority for women and in some cases other groups. Damage is when the best movies in history are undone, and their legacy distorted, by producers, directors or studios with the open agenda of forced diversity which has ruined every movie and franchise it has touched INCLUDING being financial debacles... but for some reason, Hollywood does not seem to be able to make that connection. I hope that is sufficient.
