@@randysills4418 I hope that wasn't the interview with Oprah (or Barbara Walters) when the host kept going back to her daughter. It was both extremely rude and cruel. There was far more to Carol Burnett than her daughter's tragedy. The host didn't even want her to change the subject to her daughter's successes! We need some talk shows like this now where the host just sits and talks realistically with famous folks. Has real conversations, and the person interviewed is genuine, not playing up for the camera too much, and ask real questions. It is hard to deal with shows where each person gets 3 min, is asked all the same questions every time, has no time to be themselves. I also think people looked more realistic then, even though people claim HD makes folks look real and flawed now, everyone looks false now. I really think they looked more like real people back then.

You kind of need to have watched Cavett in the 70s when it aired to understand his style, which was a reaction to other kinds of interviewers. It was the time of "rap sessions", of having very honest non-social talk. He brought that to the TV and was considered "hip" TV. It doesn't translate well to current times, but back then he was considered pretty cool for his original, talkative, get-personal style.
@lynnturman815710 жыл бұрын
I agree. He was just about the best talk show host ever. Maybe the fact that he didn't run down a list of pre-approved questions makes him seem too egotistical nowadays. But that was what made him the best: He didn't conduct interviews, he had conversations.

Lynn Turman It's like he is talking to you at your kitchen table. Just like a natural conversation between them like no one else is there. Now that makes a great interview IMO. Dick never had a formal rehearsed feel to him. I think that placed all of his guests at great ease.
@kylewhitehead16847 жыл бұрын
I wasn't alive in those days but I get the same feeling from his show today. All the current talk shows are very fake and also tediously political.
