Any house with taxes that high are worth a fortune, so if this is wasn't a movie, I'm pretty sure a normal person would just mortgage or take out a small HELOC on the house and just pay that back in smaller payments...just saying 🙂

Most banks will let you borrow between 50-75% of your equity. You would be able to pay off your taxes and other debts. Plus if you had enough equity and plan wisely, you might have enough to cover several years of payments on the mortgage while you get yourself financially stable. It sure beats giving up your home to the city over a few thousand in taxes.
