I think I've spent a total of 2 hours today, watching kumihimo projects on KZbin, learning the techniques. These necklaces are by far the loveliest of these projects. Thank you!

I love your beaded Kumi designs with the mushroom beads!! SAVING $$$ ON KUMIHIMO PROJECTS! I have made my own bobbins in the same shape as yours by cutting up a plastic ice-cream container! The lid makes softer & much more pliable 'bobbins' that are perfect for thicker cords and I can easily cut 8 of them from one 2 Litre size lid - just need to cut deeper slits to secure thicker cord. The harder plastic of the container proper makes a more rigid bobbin that works well for thinner threads or thin cord. Corrugated cardboard from a box or flat cardboard from the back of a scratch-pad (of paper) also make excellent temporary bobbins if you only plan to do one or two projects. And instead of using a kumi weight I just rolled some old coins in some calico and tied a loop in each of the ends, then stitched the roll by hand down the side - which I've used over and over again. . When I tie my 4 cords in half (or 8 cords if I'm using 16) I just do a LARK'S KNOT (same kind of loop-knot used to attach the silk cord to the first findings in this video) through a loop at either end. The weight pulls my work down and keeps it centered perfectly every time and I even save a few inches of thicker cords by not having to tie a full knot. And if you are using thicker cords I recommend doing a quick 'whip-stich' around both ends of your project before gluing into your findings, just as the instructions that came with your kumi wheel suggest. This not only secures the ends forever, but also pulls thicker cords into a manageable size that help fit a thicker rope into your findings. And if the glue should let go in a few years - at least your ends are tightly bound with whip-stitch, so it won't unravel while you're waiting to buy some new glue to re-set it. So this extra step will be well worth your added few minutes of time down the track. Happy crafting and I hope these tip help to save readers a ton of money.

Thank you for your lovely comments Lynn! I do love the mushroom beads and in this little 4mm size they work so well in Kumihimo especially in the pastel colour palette that we've managed to source. Happy beading. Julietx

Nice video - I have done plain cord Kumihimo and beaded Kumihimo ... always wondered how to do it with the larger beads in the center. AND you've just answered my questions. Thank you so much - I understood every bit of it. You did a great job explaining it to me.

This necklace is just too much fun!! Your color combos are beautiful and, yes, the mushroom beads are so cute they can cause giggles! I have had mushroom beads in my stash for quite some time wondering what to do with them--thanks for sharing this project. One more thought--I enjoy doing kumihimo until the end when the cords need to be cut--this action always gives me the "willies", and sometimes I postpone finishing the project for a day or two!!

I am having a terrible time with stringing these mushroom beads. The holes are not big enough for the string. I've tried the glue....it only makes the string thicker. I've tried tieing beading thread around the end of the string to pull the string through the hole. Some make it some break and some...well....forget it. I've spent hours on it to no avail. HELP I want to make my two kits, but HOW?
@SpoiltRottenBeadsTV
@SpoiltRottenBeadsTV 6 жыл бұрын
Hiya! The trick to stringing the mushroom beads is to use a very sharp pair of scissors to cut your thread at an angle so that it has a pointed tip. Then stiffen the end of the thread with frayblock www.spoiltrottenbeads.co.uk/product/fray-block-new/ which doesn’t make the thread thicker

Love your colors. But such a waist to make a knot and then cut it. I make a loop at the middle and use a piece of yarn of no value . So I have a nice start without cutting. I will make this one but with a braid at the begin and the end. This is to simple in my opinion.
