Thank you so much. I learned this quickly with my first litter and thankfully it all ended well. I went on signs for AI so didn’t know ovulation date and luckily my vet had experience and knew to not take too early or too late so I spent five days driving two hours each way to the vet to have her checked then when she showed the temp drop and failed eating I went down again and we agreed to do section that next morning so I got a hotel there. 4 in the morning contractions started and 6 in the morning one boy arrived and luckily being an OBGYN nurse I had some equipment in my purse to assist with cord cutting. I was blessed to have the baby alive and well and she held out on the rest until the vet opened so yes absolutely I will progesterone test next time for sure. I just need to find a closer vet that will do it

Holy, love your ideas. My female Dane is expecting in 3 weeks. This is her second litter. Her first litter did not go well. We had a power failure, winter, I panicked and took the babies from her as she was giving birth to keep them warm. Also an electrician came in to fix the problem while she was dropping babies and that traumatised her. She licked them clean and bit the umbilical cord but I took them away to keep them warm. I introduced them back to her and she growled at them. I muzzled her and made her lie down. She fed them, no problem, removed muzzle but would not lick them and clean them, so I had to after every feeding. I realise now the mistakes I made. All 13 puppies lived and did well. What can I do if she refuses to clean them again?

I appreciate so much all of your knowledge I did a progesterone test on my girl on the dec 23rd her level was 5.88 and then I tested her on the 28th again she was 15.18so we did opted for the TCI instead of the reg AI based on all of you help hopefully we did good we will find out by the 26th for X-ray/ultrasound undecided thank you

She ovulated on the 23 you would expect to ai two days later on the 25th. But you ran progesterone and it took her 5 more days to get to 15. I’m glad you did the test otherwise you would have ai earlier and probably not had a litter. I think you got it right and will have a nice litter. Congratulations let me know how it works out.

Now I’m wondering if I should count 63 days from day of ovulation the 23 or 60 days from tci like the vet said?? Since the TCI was done twice with fresh semen 12/28 and 12/29 what’s your opinion

Thank you James, your a great resource. I will be moving to the Ft. Worth area from CA. I have two Hungarian import black brindles that are full sisters, both carry blue, chocolate, cream, tan points. The one who has proven herself for me, had 6 pups, had 3 blue cream, one platinum, and two brindles. Now, she is getting a rest and her sister who has not taken the last two breedings, one done in Hungary and one supervised by me here in CA, is coming in the next week or so. You taught me about the split heat and I believe that happened last breeding, so I am going into this breeding with a new strategy. Thank you James. When I make it to Ft. Worth I would love to know your vets in Texas.

Hi James thankyou for such an informative video. I have a frenchie that has had a sneaky pregnancy with another of my male frenchies. I dont know the dates because of this. I've had her progesterone level done today and its 12. How quickly can this level drop to 2 or below. She has milk. Shes huge, her scan was done 10 days ago and she has 5 or 6 pups, with full skeleton development. Shes got clear discharge, is always picky over food and no nesting. Her temp keeps bouncing below 99 also. Thanks James

Progesterone level needs to be lower than three to be safe I’m doing a C-section the temperature should be less than 99 clear discharge is probably the mucous plug it is not particularly meaningful and a progesterone level above three doesn’t give me any indication as to win the puppies are gonna be due

Thanks for the shout out on the incubator the problem with progesterone levels is that is so varied the number that’s five is meaningless in terms of how close you are to C-section the only thing that Counts is levels of three or less are safe

Hello Sir, Just returned from the vet with a reverse pg of 5, I had a feeling she wasn’t ready. Took your advice on checking the temperatures twice a day starting about 6 days ago. Her temps hasn’t dropped under 99 and haven’t seen any signs of nesting yet. Hi James I got my little frenchie her first AI on the 3rd of Jan then twice on the 4th I've been for scans and she does have pups there. I'm checking the dates and she's 8 weeks tomorrow 56 days. I'm wondering if I should book her in now for a c section around the 61 / 63 day mark as you explain but I'm going to go get her a progesterone test either tomorrow or next day is this advisable. Hello James my name is Meridith and I was going to AI my 3 yr old female but my male got her and they locked up butt to butt on July 23rd so when I went last Friday to my local vet he did an x-ray and ultra sound and for sure she has at least 3 pups inside so he things she might have been 42 days or so last Friday Sept. 3rd so I am going back this Friday for another x-ray to see exactly how many pups are inside her but I have been watching all of your videos and am so scared I do not know exact dates and I do not want to loose her or any pups or put any of them in danger so can you please call me with any advice you may have for me in my situation. Did a natural whelp with my frenchie about week ago. We were expecting only 8 from our scan, and our Diamond surprised us with two. So we had 10. Diamond comes from a breeder that has been natural birthing for 30 years. She hasn’t needed to do a c-section. I believe giving the right diet from the start will greatly help with whelping for strength. I think c-section is a last option and a money scheme. Just my experience.

I also exercised my dog for stamina so she woudnt be out of shape. But lessened it around her gestation period. Yeah, stay away from Luis if you buy dogs from him.

Hello I commented on another video of yours I really want to get your attention and to know if it’s OK to call you to ask some questions I seen your number posted on KZbin. Yesterday me and my boyfriend went to the vet and we found out some scary news the puppies bones weren’t showing that well on the x-ray and we only heard one heartbeat but there are supposed to be 4-5 puppies in that litter. This is our first litter, are female is going to have a C-section in about a week. I thought I could trust this vet because they said that they knew exactly their stuff but now I’m concerned that they are not 100% dedicated and knowledgeable as I thought. The doctor wasn’t in yesterday and they weren’t able to tell us when he would be. Is if my dog had her progestone test done several times and the vet called me on a Wednesday said Friday is the day she wants to do ai but my number then was was like a 5 so I went for another progestone test the next day to make sure it didn’t fall and then it was a 9.9 . So tell me what day do I start my counting ? I ai on oct 29 went to vet nov 27& now my vet is scheduling progestone test day before c/ section which is 58 days from ai . We inseminated my dog on the 20th of February, her progesterone levels were 15.5 from what I can remember, the vet has given us a C-Section date of the 20th of April, does this seem right to you? We are "scheduled" in for that morning, but im from a small town and the vet most known for c sections in my town is unable to preform c sections because of the lock down, so we have another vet who hasn't done as many C sections, I am just worried about the timing of it all! She is a West Highland Terrier and so far we know she has 3 or 4 puppies, so a small litter.

There is waaay to many ads placed into this video to stay focused on the topic. Im at 13min and I've already seen 5-6 commercials. Not trying to be rude, but this is very good video and a great topic but the audience can get discouraged and leave the video OR they can misinterpret information and take the wrong steps for timing their c-section or ovulations for AI.

I've just had my female Great Dane bred via AI. My vet opted to do the TCI. The stud owner sent two collections of semen. One arrived Wednesday and one arrived on Saturday. She used both collections for one insemination on Saturday without rechecking progesterone. Our dog was at 2.66 on Tuesday and inseminated Saturday. Is it likely she will take? Could there be complications from using multiple semen collections in one sitting? Both samples were viable when used.
