Possibly the best gig I've ever witnessed. Josh was perfect, he was the best possible vessel for these songs; he inhabited them sincerely, respectfully and he did it with grace. Also can't knock the painstaking arrangements (transposed by ear, might I add) and the epic performance from the bbc orchestra and choir. Will genuinely never forget it. Hats off. Now please can I own a physical copy of this?

I wish I could've attended! Just learned about the gig, and it sounds like an amazing set with masterful arrangements from Jules Buckley. "The Old Man's Back Again" is my favorite. I also appreciate the intriguing tones at the end, reminiscent of Jerome Moross' work on "The Raid" from western 'The Big Country.'

As much a tribute to Angela Morley as it is Scott Walker. FJM brings a crisp and sincere tone to these grand old songs. Aren't we lucky to hear this?

I flew to London for 48 hours just for this show. One of the best choices I ever made. Great concert and while Josh was excellent, the real shout out goes to Jules Buckley for arranging this gorgeous concert from top to bottom.

I was so lucky to attend this gig. It was truly wonderful. The songs listed were a tiny selection of the songs he performed. An beautiful, emotional experience.

What else did he sing? I live outside Britain and completely missed this. I have read that that this show will be getting an official release - I certainly hope so. This is great.

Father John Misty = wistful Scott Walker is not wistful. Scott Walker is damaged. He'd tell you that, himself.

Oh, I wish he'd have done some songs from Walker's last albums. That would've been a treat.

There's a vid of FJM doing Farmer in the City from the same concert, but it's not in good quality

The snare sound and modern style urgent drumming beat the beauty out of the source material. The singer did a great job by not ‘artistically’ trying to make it his own whist avoiding camp karaoke..

Scott Walker was a crooner - FJM has a pleasant voice, but you need the exaggeration and extravagance of a speakeasy singer to convey the tawdry majesty of Mr Engel vocals (plus he wrote for his pitch).

Oh dear. This sounds rather wimpy compared to Scott Walker.

Well ...I differ in my opinion of this idea. Overall - FJM lacks the Gravitas to bring anything valuable to the Towering Canon of Scott Walker! It's pleasant, and the orchestration is lovely, but again - it's basically a knock-off of the original orchestration, which had more transparency - and Majesty! There is little Majesty in Tillman's singing. I listened to his rendition of "Farmer in the City" earlier, and he sounded like the guy in Bread! I LOVE "Pure Comedy" - and so this not an attack on Josh Tillman - and he sounds much better on "Seventh Seal". I am happy to see FJM keeping Walker's music in the Spotlight, though..for sure!

Subjectivity is a funny old thing... I just can't disagree more. Good discourse nonetheless!

I agree. I love FJM but he does not have the vocal range that Scott had. None the less this is very good.

100% in agreement with this. I think the biggest mistake made here was recreating the original arrangements. Those arrangements were made for (and by?) Walker. FJM, whom I'm hearing here for the first time, lacks the power to give justice to these arrangements. I think he should have sung "his" versions of these songs instead of being a pretty bad facsimile of Walker.
