When he says it's a hard song to sing, I think he's talking more-so about the emotional aspect of it. For anyone that understands the story behind it, Josh wrote this song for his battle with addiction, a time in his life when everything was falling apart. Such a beautiful song...

Old comment, but he didn’t mean challenging vocally, but emotionally, especially in front of so many people. Even two years ago when they did this live in front of only each other, he was still very dejected during it.
