I'll take a crack at it. Basically, the scene in NY (music/fashion/art/food) hasn't evolved passed the degenerate hedonist phase that was considered avant garde in the 70s,80s and 90s, for the most part anyway. This is prevalent in most big cities that were once the centers of art. Basically, the different scenes have gone from being really unique to just stereotypical and kitsch. Shock and awe in an age where shock and awe are a couple of clicks away on your phone isn't unique or forward thinking. The scenes in the 70s 80s and 90s were a response to some big societal shift. The scenes now are simply remakes or, in the case of Paris and NY, strongholds of boring artistic conservatism. They've become the same kind of monoliths that were once rebelled against.

good question, i find a lot of it redundant. some of the show was enjoyable, i guess if you can be original 20% of the time its better than never being original. there isn't really a market for design anymore, so only 20 somethings that don't care if they are sleeping on floors are the only ones doing it, and they have to grow up and get jobs eventually.

Brittany Harrison most likely an older camera , but there's also filters you can put over footage to give the same effect :) it's easier with a filter but more natural and real looking with a film camera.
