@@thomastarwater2989 they're playing the song a full step down, in the key of F. The original recording was in the key of G. Open a new window and play the 1982 recording side by side with this one and you'll hear the difference. Dropping a song down one full step makes it much easier to sing. So, no... Mike can't really hit the highs like he did back in the day. I'm not saying this to diss the guy, just presenting some facts. Secondly, the sound man running the board has a "shadow" vocal track that he can turn up at any time. So, if a singer is struggling and/or getting pitchy, they can fade his mic level and push up the volume on a pre-recorded vocal track. It's kind of a last resort thing, but it's sometimes needed. Especially when a band has back to back shows, or even 3 consecutive days of performing. How do I know this? I've been in the music biz (as a performer, recording engineer, and sound man) for almost 50 years.

I saw these guys in the King Dome Seattle in 82. Tickets were like 8 bucks.. They blew the roof off the dome. The lead guitar and singer were perfectly matched, of course they were a little younger at that time. Great Show , still remember it 42 years later. GREAT BAND.

Hello from Canada,as Scott Smith, Unfortunately he was sailing from Vancouver to San Francisco ( i think it was SF). They got caught in a storm.His passengers went down into the cabin.When they came up he was gone.They think rouge wave.I remember him playing in the mid to late 70s in a couple of Very good heavy rock bands.A friend of mine knew him very well,met him a couple of times seem'd realy humblr & shy almost When we heard that Paul Dean( anthother very under rated guitarist,this coming fr. A Metal guy). We were not surprised realy Doug got the call.Its funny cause the guitarist from his old band got the job Paul vacted to put Loverboy together As for Paul Deans playing,I also seen him in a couple bands in the early 70s to mid.He can realy rock out if he has to.But hes a total pro, Always has been he plays what the song needs and not just show off & and do the look at me look at me.

Played the Dutchess Co Fair in NY a few years ago and Loverboy headlined that night. Talked with Mike for a few min backstage. They are all still on top of their game. Matty used to stop at my country gigs and sit in on a few songs at the Palms in Birch Bay WA when he wasn't on tour with Loverboy or Tom Cochran. His dad lived in Birch Bay. Then we would party at my condo all night. One night, he went through my record collection and gave me 💩 about not having any Loverboy records lol.

Saw them 2 years in a row at the Oregon Jam in Austin Stadium. Outdoors. You could probably hear them 5 miles away outside the Oregon Ducks stadium. Great shows. One year they were the Headliner. Next year Foreigner 4 was. Two great singers.

Still jam out to loverboy til this day! At least Mike and the boys r out there putting on great shows and letting us never ever forget great music and he does sound pretty good. Yes, he does need to get back in shape tho. I hope his health is ok. This music brings back so many great fun and times. These younger generations need to recognize what great music is! My son is 11 yrs old and man he digs this kind of music. And he's a hard core 80's glam metal and heavy metal fan! He loves motorhead the most tho.

They're playing it a full step down from the original key of G and playing it in the key of F now. That's a huge difference from a singer's aspect. It's a lot easier to sing when you drop it down. Go to the original video in 1982 and you'll hear the difference.

Considering Mike is 70 yrs old( let that sink in), he actually sounds really good, especially when you compare him to other singers of that era. Listen to Vince Neil, or AXL Rose or David Lee Roth or the mighty Geoff Tate. Are they tuned down? Of course they are, most bands do live for their singers. The human voice doesn’t age well. I can’t hit notes I used to back in the day. All of that said, he’s singing in tune, and actually hit the screams which was impressive. Good for them still rocking.

I'm surprised by the amount of positive comments about the vocals, The band is tuned down a whole step from the original recording, and even in lieu of that Mr. Reno is still pretty flat on the higher notes. Listen to Tommy Shaw today for a comparison of old guys still able to do it.

Who cares he has a gut. You don’t know his situation. Maybe he takes medication that makes you gain weight. Prednisone is one of those medications, there are plenty of meds that do that. However, that opening bass line needs to be longer.
