Thanks for your positive reaction to this much covered (over 200 artists?) song!! They WROTE it for Otis Redding, but recorderd it themselves when Otis died suddenly before he had a chance. Check out another early-period Bee Gees: "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" and "Run to Me"-- they had hit after hit in 1970-71 before the Disco period in 1975-79.

It's perfect, dynamic blue eyed soul! One of the most covered songs ever, making songwriters like Bono, Stephen Stills and Noel Gallagher kinda green with envy, like they said. Check'em out with 'Words' and 'I Started A Joke'.

The twins were 17 and Barry 20 here🙃. Their birthdays were later in the year. They were so young to write songs like this.

Otis Redding nearly bought this song from Barry Gibb, but sadly died before the deal was closed. On the one hand, I would have loved to hear Otis sing this, but on the other hand, that twist of fate was why Barry and his brothers went ahead and recorded it themselves, spawning years of wonderful music.
