You saying this made me think that Mirror Dance perhaps takes advantage of how much we love certain characters to almost balance out the dark themes of the book to keep the book from being overwhelmingly dark. I've gone from struggling to listen to audio to rapidly going through Mirror Dance, Light from Uncommon Stars, Poverty by America, and The Cabin at the End of the World without finishing a physical book... And now I'm happily back in the audiobook of Penric world, which is a much cozier place than the Vorkosigan saga. Best of luck with your online course teaching!

Yay that Lost Places is so good! I'll definitely want to pick that up once I have the brain space. Good luck finishing the Le Guin books and starting the new term!

Good to hear your thoughts on Mirror Dance! It’s definitely the most challenging book in the series imo.

🦔 As someone much earlier into Vorkosigan, it is interesting to hear your thoughts on Mirror Dance. It does remind me a bit of a scene from Shards of Honor. Gonna be reading Warrior’s Apprentice next month so excited for more! Right now I’m reading The Wise Man’s Fear and mostly loving it! Finally got through the slightly sloggy part most people don’t care for so excited to see where it goes. I’ve also been reading the Hugo Novelette nominees. On the Fox Roads and I Am AI so far have both been great!

I’ve been waiting to hear your thoughts on Mirror Dance - and totally agree, that chapter is incredibly uncomfortable but the issues are dealt with really well. Having read the book a number of times, I admit I now skip that particular bit when reading - I know where it sits in the story so can jump to the next chapter when I start to get close. Brothers in Arms and then Mirror Dance is probably the start of the most interesting arc in Miles’ life, and the next book Memory (that’s probably the one you were trying to name) is possibly my favourite in the series. Looking forward to your thoughts when you finish this one… What I’m reading at present- I’ve just started reading T Kingfisher - and I am a fan! Read What Moves the Dead, then What Feasts at Night - the first was a 5 star read, the second probably a 4.75. I now have Nettle and Bone, The Seventh Bride and A Sorceress Comes to Call to read next, just not sure which one! Have you ever read any Connie Willis? If not, you might like it. To Say Nothing of the Dog is an incredibly fun read; Doomsday Book is really good; I also enjoy some of her earlier novellas - Remake, and Bellwether among them. After my T Kingfisher reading, I’ll probably go back to Connie Willis, and reread Crosstalk - it has been a few years since I read it but from memory, it is near future speculative fiction all about getting a brain implant to allow you to ‘truly connect with’ your partner. Enjoy Bujold - I basically consider the entire Vorkosigan saga to be space opera at it’s finest. ✨✨✨✨✨

That's interesting, I'm curious to read the Vorkosigan saga now. Like, I was already interested, but those themes interest me, so I guess I'll add it to my list. This week, I finished Old Man's War, which was fun but it has much less stakes than I thought it would? Then I picked up Children of Dune, which I'm reading with my best friend, and Annihilation, which is very short, so I should be able to finish it this weekend

Lost Places sounds so good! I need to get back to the Vorkosigan Saga! I have taken too long of a break. Right now I am reading Those Beyond the Wall and I really like it! I am also finishing up Imago. Work and life have been getting in the way of my reading a bit though!😂🦔

I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on The Seventh Bride 😀🦢🦔🦔🦔 I have a lot of cleaning to do today, so I'm gonna finish one, or maybe even 2 audiobooks today so I'm already looking what should I pick up next. I think I'm craving a good, whimsical, magic school middle grade (on audio) 🤔Any recs?
