LOL! I created The City opening posted here as "the final version" and it WAS based around a fan fiction I wrote. Ion Overman (Gabriela, PC) and Heather Locklear (Amanda, Melrose Place) were added characters of my creation, and I myself appear in the opening too! Sorry that the creator of THIS compilation video got confused, but I'll take it as a compliment that it was authentic-looking enough to confuse the viewer! Sorry gang!

This montage is actually missing the very first open to THE CITY that included Amelia Heinle (then Weatherly) as Steffi Brewster. She was originally seated at the table with Azure. Bernardo was included with the Danny/Richard/Ally/Zoey group. Steffi left the show only about 2-3 months in, then came the open that is labeled here as being "first."

I watched the very first episode. A character namely Meryl was the star but she was written out toot sweet. My favorite was Gwyneth. So astoundingly beautiful when she first came on. Then a bit frumpy and Aunt Bea-like when she killed everyone.

Loving had such beautiful opening themes. I ws never a fan of the Murder Mystery opening nor the City. It wasn’t soap opera-ish. It was more of a Melrose Place theme to me. Long live all of our Stories. Ratings continue to plummet in 2023. I never thought I’d live to see Soap Operas being a thing of the past. Just blessed to have been around in the Era❤

Did that last opening for "The City" happen only on the East Coast or something?? I SWEAR it just ended with the "circuit city" red circle logo after Morgan Fairchild left. I don't remember all those shots of Carla and Tracy. And that ALMOST looked like Heather Locklear at the end - but was it Ally??? ??? I'm confused.

The Loving franchise ended in March 1997 when The City ended after one and a half seasons. Classic episodes of All My Children, One Life to Live, and General Hospital from 1965 to 1974 aired until May 30, 1997, after which Port Charles premiered on June 1, 1997 and remained on the schedule until October 3, 2003 when ABC returned the 12:30 pm eastern timeslot to its affiliates. The cancellation of the latter resulted in Buena Vista Television arranging a deal to return Millionaire to several ABC stations that did not carry the show’s first syndicated season. The second season of that show premiered a few weeks before Port Charles ended.

Joseph Lambert - I so remember when ABC aired the special called A DAYTIME TO REMEMBER with Reba McIntyre hosting the show, and they aired classic episodes of All My Children, General Hospital, and One Life To Live for 2 months after The City ended until Port Charles. I loved seeing those classic episodes. Now that GH is close to running out of new episodes to air in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, I wouldn’t mind seeing ABC air classic episodes of GH again and even some of their former daytime soaps like AMC, Loving, The City, Ryan’s Hope, The Edge of Night, Port Charles, and OLTL along with GH.

TheSecretStarr it looks like educational programs may be occupying the slot soon.
@TheSecretStarr4 жыл бұрын
Joseph Lambert - Thanks for the reply, Joseph. That doesn’t surprise me that ABC would rather put educational programs in the time slot instead of airing classic episodes of their many soaps. It seems that ABC has been systematically trying to get out of the soap business for years, which is quite sad.

I think the last THE CITY opening was probably done for the UK or it was fan created. The final opening was similar to the debut opening, except the photos were crumpled into a ball and when the ball straightened out it was the full THE CITY logo, and it had the ABC DAYTIME logo on it.

Liked the new age into and the Jeffrey Osbourne intro also it's closing in early years was beautiful!! This being very generous from a Ryan's hope fan that saw it get the death slot cause of this show and Agnes Nixon's influence it backfired tho lovings best ratings didn't match Ryan's worst before the slot change but I digress to give loving credit tho I've read several critics and fans saying thier last murder mystery was one of the best in daytime period must have been cause even general hospital picked up on it years later!!
@TheSecretStarr4 жыл бұрын
HR 95 - You are correct that LOVING’S serial killing story that aired during the show’s final months from July 1995 till October 1995 was one of the best murder mystery stories that has ever been done on a soap, in my opinion. While I only watched the show during its last 3 years on the air, I was glued to my seat during the entire Loving Murders story, and part of what made the story so great is that there were no Internet spoilers around back in 1995 to spoil the episodes, so viewers had to watch every episode to find out what would happen. To me, the story was also well-crafted by the writers to where they gave a great explanation as to why Gwyneth Alden was the killer, and they made great use of Gwyn’s history to explain her motive for the killings. The Corinth townsfolk didn’t even-suspect Gwyn to be the killer, as she was a long suffering woman, yet it made total sense at the end for Gwyn to be the killer due to her daughter Trisha having rejected the entire Alden family in a letter to them, which had happened around a year or so (circa: April or May of 1994) before the murder storyline began in July 1995. Trisha’s rejection of the Alden family and her mother Gwyn was explained as the catalyst for how Gwyn developed a split personality (which was modeled after Trisha because Trisha knew how to hurt people) and Gwyn began killing the Aldens and her friends to relieve them of their pain and suffering. The fact that the writers delved into Gwyn’s history to an event that happened a year earlier to explain her as the killer was pure awesome. Also, what made the story even more compelling is that the show killed off 6 major, long term characters during the storyline (and they targeted other major characters on the show) instead of killing off random day player characters that no fan cared about like other soaps will often do in a murder mystery. To me, LOVING’s murder story was ingeniously written and I have not seen anything better written in daytime since then. And I do remember the GENERAL HOSPITAL episode that recounted the Loving Murders story that aired back in August 2013. That was such a great treat for the fans of LOVING.

The Johnny Mathis and Jeffrey Osbourne themes are equally good, reflecting very different styles and decades. The last intro you included is a fake. I'm pretty sure Heather Locklear didn't leave Melrose Place to take a role on The City.
@AndyBluebear-fi9om5 ай бұрын
Loving's intros were just so blah and boring. The Figure It Out one was actually the best, and quite good. The City opening was ok, but it felt more like something you would see on The WB instead. The intro at 02:31 is fake and fan made! I mean, Heather Locklear being in it should be a clue to how fake it is.
