Lovran (or Laurana in Italian and Lauran in German) is a small village in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in Istria, Croatia. It is situated close to the resort town of Opatija on the Varner Bay. Lovran has a population of 4,000. Lovran was founded by the Roman Empire and Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa built his summer residence there. In the 19th century it would become an important tourist destination for the aristocrats of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The most significant architectural structure of Lovran is the st. George Church in the old town.
