So I guess tap adjusting with the hammer is kind of out of the question for the 164 because of the depth adjuster plate?

I thought #165 could be adjusted on the fly. “...Bailey-type blade adjuster allow smooth adjustment of the cutting depth, even while planing.” The video seems to suggest a screwdriver is necessary to make blade depth adjustments. Which is it ?
