It makes total sense. Horror is cheap by nature. People like seeing them in theaters, especially young people. If you can make 100-200 million on a 5-10 million budget you can afford 5 flops and still turn a profit for the studio.
@fishjones46182 жыл бұрын
Any moderately and sensibly budgeted movie that has the potential to yield high returns can save Hollywood no matter the genre. As Robert Meyer Burnett has suggested, instead of dumping 100 million dollar splooge fest for a weekend, make ten 10 million dollar films helmed by up and coming directors with a unique voice and vision (and not necessarily sleep inducing Oscar bait movies) and pepper them throughout the year. One of them may yield a hit even if it’s a sleeper. Not every film has to cross certain thresholds.

It’s kind of always been that way. New Line, the studio behind the epic, loved Lord of the Rings franchise, was known as “The House that Freddy Built.”

Would love to see more parasitic/contagion type horrors, like The Knowing and maybe more dimensional/space creature flicks, like The Mist. Miss the days when things could just be inherently evil and overpowering, that could unite people/humanity, instead of petty protagonists, that just fuck around and find out.
@fishjones46182 жыл бұрын
They couldn’t be more wrong. In the early 1970’s with the rise of “New Hollywood” auteurs like Spielberg, Lucas, Scorsese, and Coppola, one can count the number of horror films on one hand: The Exorcist and Jaws. With the independent director explosion of the early 1990’s with Tarantino, Rodriguez, and Smith, you can’t count the number because there wasn’t any. What’s going to save Hollywood is what always saved it. New voices with a fresh vision and a studio management daring enough to give them a chance.

If it's done right, I would love to see a modern day adaptation of Salem's Lot. It's my favorite Stephen King book and probably my favorite vampire book. Wolfen, by Whitley Strieber, is another one that would be great for the big screen (I know it's already been made but it was nothing like the book).

There is room for big event films, but it must be quality. Horror is always a smart move, but again a creative pool of talent need to roam like Kevin Fiege, Christopher Nolan and other talents. Constantine R rated DC is a smart move. Supernatural comic arena another field unexplored.
